yeah, it's over 30 feet down. I wonder how much water filled up in there a couple of weeks ago when we had that heavy rain storm.

Here's the giant wall of glass that is the east side of the Marriott (So far). There are still, what another 8 or 10 floors to go?

Here are a couple of poorly merged photo's of IBC Bank on 5th, across from the Federal Court. Looks like just four more floors and they'll top out. It really gives that part of fifth street a very different feeling with those two talk buildings on either side (Tall compared to what was there a few years ago).

Yeah they hit "rock bottom" about two weeks ago. Since then they've been hammering away noisily at the rock. I'm sure the people at Brazos Lofts across the street are hating it.

Any idea how deep they intend to go?

According to the building elevations from the site plan, the building will have 4 levels of parking below ground that will go down 42 feet below street level.

99 Trinity Tower - 39 floor apartment tower

http://downtownaustinblog.org/2013/1...unit-highrise/

KevinFromTexas Nov 12, 2013 7:20 PM

That link didn't work for some reason.

http://downtownaustinblog.org/2013/1...unit-highrise/

Assuming that the floor to height ratio is the same for the Four Seasons Residences nextdoor, 99 Trinity Tower should be around 465 to the main roof and about 488 to the mechanical penthouse. That would make it taller than the W Hotel & Residences which would make it our 4th tallest.

Four Seasons Residences is still one of my least favorite new buildings, so whatever can be built next to it to steal some of its thunder is fine by me.

wwmiv Nov 12, 2013 9:38 PM

I like Four Seasons. :/

Syndic Nov 13, 2013 3:53 PM

Wow, that's the biggest news we've heard in months. I've really been hoping they would get something built on that lot. I figured The Fairmont, the Waller Center development, and this development were sort of symbiotic. This area could rival the west end of downtown when both are finished. I'm really excited about this project. It will be a fun one to watch.

I don't hate it. I do like the facade actually. The only thing that bugs me about it are the "naked bones" balconies, but I'm most bothered by the two bland mechanical penthouses that sit prominently on the roof. I just wish they had done more to hide those. I know they wanted to keep the roof open because of the rooftop pool, but I wish they had maybe done something with it like a latticework rooftop structure similar to Baltimore's 100 East Pratt building. Or even cover it with a dome similar to the Chase Bank Tower. At least that way they could use the pool in the wintertime.
