So much for my unerring eye. Glad to hear your friend is still alive. And still working as late as 2008, according to IMDB. That's quite a career.

I think you're right about Pier Angeli. There's a photo on Google Images where she's wearing what appears to be the same dress.

JMR, is this the picture of Pier Angeli you're talking about?

That's the one. Opinions?

tovangar2 Aug 19, 2015 4:10 PM

LOL, this is a lot of fun, but so frustrating. #36 is driving me nuts. Pier Angeli & Vic Damone were married at the time of the photo. If that is Eva Gabor, she's the only Gabor George Sanders wasn't married to.

...and three cheers for Van Johnson's megawatt smile. He always seemed so genuine. I was never a big fan except for "State of the Union" (1948). OMG, that man could wear a suit.

I think #36 is Jean Pierre Aumont. He was in "Lili" about that time.

#30 is Grace Kelly, in costume for "Green Fire."

I'm pretty sure #36 is Michael Wilding....

And 31 is Fernando Lamas...

1950, and Julius Shulman has photographed the (just built? recently remodeled?) Stiles Clements-designed penthouse atop the Richfield:

(Some time in the near future I need to do a big fat post on the Late Moderne in general and Clements' role within it specifically.)

Thank you so much Beaudry. I assume this remodel was after one of the fires (I'm a bit iffy on the timeline re those, although they've been covered here. I need to look that up). See P.S.

This shot is priceless. I never thought I see that again:

Very much looking forward to that "big, fat post" :-)

P.S.

1954 Richfield Building fire:

It sure looks like the remodel is going up in flames.

The other fire was in 1967.

I've added the recent IDs to the list I posted previously on this page. There's now only about 8 no one's had a go at.

Is #38 Spring Byington? She was a long time contract player for MGM.

I believe that #37 is correct.

MGM had 227 actors under contract during the ''star'' system era. A sizeable number are not really well known today.

Michael Wilding is correct. He's in costume for "The Glass Slipper," as is Leslie Caron.

OK, Wilding and Taylor were also married at the time of the photo. Wilding, best friend Stewart Granger, Elizabeth Taylor and Jean Simmons (Mrs Granger) often used to go out together.

Who's still with us?

John Ericson
Russ Tamblyn
Debbie Reynolds
?
?

Thanks for highlighting the Julius Shulman collection, Beaudry. I've just started to look through it. Can I take this opportunity to remind everyone that you can't hotlink to the images in the Getty Library - the pictures will disappear from NLA within hours.

Bearing my hotlinking warning in mind, I'll just give the title of this group, which is "Job 1410: Bank of America (Los Angeles, Calif.), 1952". The bank of America in question was at 5717 S Vermont Avenue (according to the 1956 CD). From the same source, Meledy Foods was at 5701 S Vermont Avenue, and Kress was at 5833 S Vermont Avenue.
