Ahh, so I see you must have been the designer/architect for the EDITT Tower in Singapore.

But I am fairly sure I would have some trouble getting used to such a small space with only the back wall being solid, especially with the wind. Three solid walls would be just fine at 700', but not these balconies.

Agreed. Not only do I think inset balconies look better (think W hotel/condos versus this), but I would be a bit wary to spend much time on one if it were 650' up.... My balcony isn't cantilevered like this, but it can get very windy even on the 21st floor. I can't imagine how windy things would get even higher.

I've always wondered how people feel about having balconies at that height. It does get very windy and I wonder about patio furniture being blown away or just feeling safe standing on a balcony that high. Do the guardrails typically have to be higher up there?

I’m told that all of the balconies on the 360 condo building need repair, and the costs are significant, and the responsibility of the individual condo owners. So maybe those types of balconies aren’t the wisest choice.

I was invited to see a clients 41st floor condo soon after it opened. It was unfurnished, and meant to be an investment.

It was kinda stark with cement walls etc. But when I tried to step out onto the balcony I had vertigo such as I've never experienced! It was like standing on an eyelash. I don't remember actually getting within a few feet of the rail. It was surreal.

It's no surprise those balcony's would be problematic over time.

All the balconies on the Austonian had to be replaced or repaired a few years ago.

I had the same exact experience when touring a unit to potentially purchase on the 42nd floor of the 360 condos because 90's TV sitcoms set in NYC made it look really fun to live in a skyscraper and I always thought I wanted to live in one. But I took one step on the balcony and instantly decided a house is a better choice for me.

I lived on the 28th floor of a building in China and had a pretty sizable, recessed balcony. It was a practical feature, we didn't have a clothes dryer, so everything was hung-dry. Still, the winds could get crazy and you had to watch out or everything would get blown over, even with the balcony shielded by the building. There were vertical metal wires running from the rail to the ceiling to prevent anything from flying through, but one day the winds were so strong they picked up a broom I used to sweep out there, and it slipped out between the wiring. Beneath my apartment was a very busy street corner which opened to a supermarket. I was terrified that the broom had struck someone and rushed downstairs. But when I got out to the street the broom was gone -- someone had taken it home with them!

Yeah, yangtai's were always fun. I liked the place I lived at the longest in China that had an enclosed yangtai, but you had windows that you could open on either end to let a breeze in to assist with drying the clothes.

The tiny ever so slight cantilever on this building is just bizarre to me. It's not significant enough to add anything to the design but just significant enough to trigger people with OCD. Just a lazy design element even tho i like the tower as a whole

Just curious...has there been a hotel mentioned with this project? If so was there a brand noted?

That's a joke, right? In case it's not, it's a Conrad.

I kinda figured it would be but I am too lazy to go back thru previous posts to see if it was mentioned.

2nd Street was closed off this morning between San Jacinto/Trinity. Looks like they were getting ready to roll out with the cab hooked up to the trailer carrying the old house. Guess Sunday mornings at 7:15am are a good time to do these kinds of things.

I've seen some older homes being moved for preservation purposes. It's always amazing to watch that process.
