The effect of the angles are being diminished by the choice of windows.
The addition of a grid in the windows ( I bet a cost savings over large plates) KILLS the graphic of the building. You would see the angles of the facade much better if it were not competing with the grid in the window frames. |
The renderings seemed to show the facade being more white, so if they're still planning that, it should help with the contrast. I agree, though, that the framed windows are a distraction.

Yeah, looking back, I agree. It would be a lot nicer without the window frames, though I'm sure they did save some money.

Too bad the windows aren't angled as well. I would look at that building for hours watching how the light plays off of the multiple angles. Instead, I'll probably give it a glance once in a while with a disappointed expression on my face. Could have been much more interesting.

Here are some Shoal Creek aerials I took this morning. It got too windy so I had to abort, but next time I'll try and get closer to the facade to check out the offset framing/building skin. That's quite a canyon between Shoal Creek and Whole Foods. No sun for those lower offices.

These are fantastic. Thanks for posting!

Yep, excellent shots.
Points out just how much available land is NOT taken up by that first tower. Wish we had better renders of the rest of the lot... |

Thanks for all the pics! Still saddens me to have the surface parking at 5th/6th and Lamar. Ready for what's next there..

I was just thinking of this when I was looking at the great photos that AusTxDevelopment posted on June 19th. What about an open market or perhaps permanent local restaurant stalls? Or both? This could really vibe with Whole Foods and all of these stalls/shops/etc. could surround a plaza of sorts with seating, benches, fountains, trees/grass, etc. That way Whole Foods/Amazon could lease the real estate to various vendors (preferably local) to get income and it could be great for the community as a whole. It also wouldn't require too much in the way of structural support given that it would be smaller one-story places. |

Wait, are we talking about surface parking attached to Whole Foods (i.e. the part of their parking that's up on ground level) or is there more surface parking that's going to be attached to Shoal Creek Walk too? |
I heard that the south side of the shoal creek site along 5th has the foundation to support a future tower but the developer is holding off in order to see if the market can support the cost.

It has stairs.... You can see it in this webcam shot. Is there a parking deck above ground as well on this side.? A bridge to Whole Foods? ( doesn't seem necessary) I pass this often on foot and car... and I'm stumped ! you may have to hit the link to get other views! |
I have been wondering the same thing ever since I noticed the structure a few days ago. I've never seen something like that. It's huge.
