I don't think so. Houston had about 5 or 6 towers all around 600 ft+, 4 of them being the current tallest ones, completed between '1982 and 1983. All of those buildings were under construction at once. Maybe not announced in the same year but surely under construction all at once.

As someone who grew up here its really amazing. Austin more or less remained the same city from when I was born into the mid aughts with a few changes here and there (new airport, some highway expansions and sprawl) and the last 10 years the city has basically been unrecognizable from the version of itself from just 3-4 years prior.

I imagine this is what living in NYC circa 1920 must have felt like (then again, NYC from 6 years ago to today is equally insane transformation)

All the density downtown and in it's environs is truly remarkable. No telling what the city will look like in a decade.

98RR - 1,022'
307 W. 2nd - 786'
321 West - 675'
Modern Austin - 658'
415 Colorado - 640'
Republic - 710'
Travis - 594'

How realistic is it that these will all break ground this year? Any more to add to these 7 for 2022?

All of them should break ground this year except possibly 307 W. 2nd which has a 2023 start date from a source I can't recall at this moment. The Republic remains a question though.

This list of 21 Austin Skyscrapers, over the arbitrary 500' tall category is mind numbing and exciting at the same time. The granddame, and on the very bottom of the list is the iconic Frost Tower finished in 2004. A mire 18 years ago. Only 6 of the 21 are completed. One under construction now and 6 more expected to start construction This Year. And 1 probable construction start in 2023. That leaves 8 just as proposed! Soon Austin will have 13 towers punching the 500' plateau.

Have I missed any? Any corrections? Any new news on the 8 proposed?

Simply Stunning!

ATX East Tower? We have a second supertall that has been proposed? I didn't see a thread for it...

Block 185 is missing at 594'.

agsatx88 Feb 26, 2022 2:28 PM

I also don't see Hanover Brazos Street at 513' on their list.

The ATX towers started moving forward with specific plans (see post #1 in the project's thread) right as the pandemic hit. Those particular plans seemed to have stalled since then.

Is the ATX West Tower related to the ATX East Tower?

Yes - It was/is a two tower project on the two half blocks where the former Railyard Condo are located.

Oh yeah, that one. We should just call it the Railyard or something.

Anyway, I think the consensus is that it's very doubtful that it'll happen. I may be wrong though.

H2O Feb 27, 2022 2:30 PM

I have no doubt it will happen. Karlin paid a lot of money for those two 1/2 blocks. Whether or not it will look exactly as the original vision renderings remains to be seen.
