Yeah. I don't get how people are seeing this as a great addition to the skyline. It's so bland and basic. More filler crap, but tall.

Its like I said about people's opinions on here being kinda weird... some like the real crappy ones and others seem to be very opinionated over the smaller lesser projects. But I'm with you this is very very mediocre.

Walmart buys the Nuevo Leon lot on East 6th. In DFW, Walmart has smaller neighborhood grocery stores. Hopefully it's not something bigger.

A smaller Walmart would be awesome. When I'm shopping at the typical Super Walmart I quite often find myself wishing to be at a place with less crap.:rolleyes:

A big box store behind a sea of parking would be horrible.

It isn't a great addition to the skyline, and reminds me of those horrible office towers that went up south of the river in the 1980s.

But the street-front retail looks good and potentially really good if done right. I'd rather have a mediocre building with a good street-front than a magnificent skyscraper with a terrible presentation to the street.

As between supertalls and lots of good mid-rise infill, the lots of good infill mid-rise infill is far more important, in my opinion, to what we need in this city.

um, y'all....the Walton family is fuckin evil and having even the most hip urban shiny yuppy wal-mart off East 6th is a HUGE FAIL.

I'm not with you here. I would rather push for a great addition to the skyline at a case like this along with good street activity, especially if this thing is going to really stand out in the skyline.

Cities like San Antonio and Cincinnati are paying millions in subsidies to lure grocers to their city centers. If we can get one to build just blocks from our downtown in a pedestrian oriented design that would be a huge WIN. Walmart is not evil. They just build some of the ugliest and most car oriented stores in the nation. Hopefully they build something like the "neighborhood center" shown above.

Let's hope that the Green Proposal turns out OK.... The height is its saving grace right now... I count 40 floors... also the glass and the lighting may make for a nice addition at night.... The biggest problem in my mind is that they may gut the height as budgets solidify.... It would a be a bit of a disaster if they reduce the height....

But it's BROWN! Why is this building brown!? Austin is looking cool in blue--this is brown. I know it's just a rendering, but it's brownnnn! Why did they think this would look great in brown? The whole building is brown. Look at it, look at all the brown!

I still see shades of blue in all of the glass. I'm hoping it's the reflection in the rendering making it so dark.
