Love the skyline shots*** lol on ACL live stream via Hulu! Looking good Austin!

Skyline shits are my favorite :haha:

I don't know. I like the privacy of my water closet. But skyline pisses at the Headliner's Club should be a bucket list item for all skyscraper nerds (at least for the males).
|
Not skyline-oriented, but in the Himalayas, there are some awesome road-side bathrooms with an open window looking at the mountain range. Not too shabby, if it weren't for the smell....
|
Here is your latest skyline shits.

Austin has such a nice natural setting with the river, I'm so happy this was one of the cities that happened to boom. It could potentially rival any city outside NY or Chicago sometime this decade.
I wonder when we'll see plans for 3rd and Congress and if rumors of a new tallest are true. |
Austin has very Canadian skyline/water vibe to me and I am here for it :)

I love how Austin's skyline is developing along the water of Ladybird Lake. I for one would like to see some development on the other side. We have the proposal to the west of the Hyatt Regency that looks great, but that whole block that the Austin Statesman and a couple of other low-slung office building takes up bounded by Congress on the West and Riverside on the south is screaming for redevelopment. Doesn't have to be really tall, but a handful of buildings in the 15-25 story range that step down to the South Congress neighborhood would be amazing. There's so much surface parking on that property that could be better utilized.

This is just the Statesman property. The other tracts south of it to Riverside will soon also be in play. |
^ Amazing. I hope some level of that comes to fruition.

It’s hard to imagine a super tall there in the future!

St. Louis, Kansas City, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Phoenix, Tampa, and Sacramento. And of those that have dismantled freeways, only San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle really count. Cities which engage well with their water frontages beyond the above three: San Diego, Austin, Nashville, Miami, Baton Rouge, Memphis, Omaha, Houston, San Antonio, Columbus, Indianapolis, New York City, Chicago, Boston, Providence, Syracuse, Rochester, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Jacksonville, Baltimore, D.C., Philadelphia, Detroit, Denver, Albuquerque, Minneapolis and Saint Paul, among many others including most medium and small cities. There are few other offenders, but they mostly have industrial along their primary waterfronts (rather than a freeway). |

Railyard (ATX Towers)
The latest concept for the mixed-use development. https://online.fliphtml5.com/dpxl/oyzb/ https://i.imgur.com/GGnyWSs.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/pbWRT2l.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/sl0EUNI.jpeg |
The city of towers continues to add to it's bounty! Nice looking buildings in the renderings.
|
Railyard, seriously? I get it's a concept name but it makes no sense in any dimension with downtown Austin. That is unless they're trying to count the light rail line nearby that is a reach in itself.
|
Quote:
The light rail system - which is currently in design - will also have a station - within a block of the building when it is completed. |

Then again, said original concept and all the talk of a potential supertall there may have made me rather spoiled to begin with. :P |
I'm fairly certain this is an old proposal. It is all of blocks 16 and 32, and not all of the two half blocks of the Railyard Condos site. See the dedicated thread in the Austin section for more.

308-316 Congress
https://services.austintexas.gov/edi....cfm?id=393995 A developer reviewed setbacks, building preservation and underground parking with the Historical Landmark Commission for a ~551,000 SF tower to rise above 308-316 Congress. The proposal does not include the surface lot next door. I’d guess a floor count around 35-stories, maybe more. For reference, 500 West 2nd is 500,000 SF and stands 29-stories. It sits on a larger footprint without setbacks. https://i.imgur.com/0XoR09Wh.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/PcgpJluh.jpeg |
Interesting elevation!

So far all of the tower over historic building(s) proposals in Austin have failed. These three were all great projects:
Lavaca Motto by Hilton hotel 416 Congress hotel Masonic Lodge Tower |
I can't imagine how Toronto could build much of anything without allowing towers above heritage buildings (or facades at least) or just completely demolishing them as they used to. The majority of building facades they are preserving are pretty run of the mill in Toronto yet are significantly larger and more elaborate than even the grandest historic structures in Austin. I think the DAA should start funding Toronto historic preservation tours for members of Heritage Austin and the Historic Landmark Commission. Then they could actually walk down the streets and realize it is possible to keep the historic streetscape experience and meet modern development needs at the same time.

^ That just doesn't seem like Austin to me.
