The $100 million-worth of renovations & expansions at Gun Lake Casino are close to done now. Phase 4, as this is called, began in Fall 2019 and has been plowing through construction during the pandemic. Wrap-up is expected later this summer or fall. Hudsonville -

Hudsonville Public Schools is the largest school district in Ottawa County. To keep up with growth, the district broke ground on a new 5/6 building in April, adjacent to Georgetown Elementary School. Designed by GMB, the new 112,000 SF school building will feature lots of common space and new athletic space. This project is one part of a $140 million bond proposal that passed in 2019. Covert Township -

The purchase of the gas-fueled plant (located between Benton Harbor & South Haven) is pending regulatory approval and would contribute to Consumer's push to end all coal-fired production.

Can I just say, every time I see mention of the Covert Generating Plant, I can't help but think of C.O.V.N.E.T., from Muppets from Space. There's a bit of a resemblance between them, too -

Big Rapids -

Another big project is moving forward at Ferris State University -

The exhibit designer is Washington D.C.-based design firm Howard+Revis, with architectural services provided by Southfield, MI-based Neumann / Smith Architecture. It will be a new, 31,000 SF+ standalone building, to house the University's collection of nearly 14,000 artifacts - mostly racist memorabilia.

The realization of this vision is a ways out still. Design is scheduled to run through 2021. 2022 will see a traveling exhibit and capital campaign. If all goes well, construction will then begin in 2023 and last through 2024.

I realize that this is a small project; I just thought I'd mention that the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce has moved into its new office space in the long-derelict Maple Lane Plaza (now rebranded as the Metro @ Maple Lane), which has been an eyesore as long as memory serves me. I think it's a good move, as it demonstrates their willingness and intent to revitalize vacant commercial structures and attract new businesses to the city. Vicksburg-based Frederick Construction led the work, and other parts of the mall that will be repurposed are still under construction -

It definitely adds a lot to downtown. I notice that this particular construction method (poured concrete with some architectural flourish that is then stained) is quite common around here now, no doubt because of cost. Now if only there were some movement on the proposed 10-story redevelopment of the former bank building at First & Clay.

Muskegon -

The 11-story, 160-unit Hartford Terrace will be receiving an $18 million facelift, with the help of some MSHDA LIHTC's. Renovations will not begin until next fall and will wrap up in 2023 -
