What are they putting underneath the Texas Mall? Geez, that's deep. A garage?

A 3,100 space five-level underground parking garage.

Urbannizer reports 2400 Seton, a 321' 30 floor West Campus residential tower, has started site prep. No photos yet, though.

The new capitol mall stuff is going to be great when finished!

Dariusb Jul 10, 2020 5:38 PM

I love how the city is mixing office/residential towers along with businesses creating that neighborhood dynamic and with all of the people who come downtown to work as well as play, it's creating a great street level urban feeling. Also these panoramic photos are giving me life!!

That part is an existing building. The hotel will be built on top of it. It's actually an old building from 1881 I believe.

Weekly Construction Update

https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/comm...dup_july_2431/

Text copied over, with all photos missing

Quote:

90 Rainey - 606' - 52 Floors

Demo permit approved for the existing Container Bar and neighboring Bungalow. Don't worry, they'll be incorporated into the base of the new tower. I've seen some pretty cool designs for the implementation, but those pictures are probably impossible to dig up by now.

Block 185 - 594' - 35 Floors

Austin's next signature tower is really getting into the swing of things. This has passed the Northshore's base and will soon be easily visible from more parts of South Austin. No easily discernible floor counts, but the main tower might be on the 6th floor and the core is probably around the 8th.

44 East - 573' - 49 Floors

New photo from the developer, Intracorp. Building in foreground. Looks to be starting columns for the third floor.

Indeed Tower - 542' - 36 Floors

Up to the 34th floor now. Core is probably topped out, or at least close. Really becoming a dominant tower on the skyline and arguably the most impressive from some angles.

Hanover Republic Square - 514' - 44 Floors

Tower is on 4th floor, core is on the 7th (roughly.) This will be as tall as the Frost Tower and has been seemingly forgotten amidst other projects. What a city we live in.

Natiivo / Austin - 358' - 33 Floors

In the background of the 44 East photo. Starting to have a significant presence from I-35.

405 Colorado - 356' - 25 Floors

The molar/CRT/insult of the week has one more floor to go. The facade is flying up and it's better looking than I was expecting.

5th & Brazos - 355' - 31 Floors

This has reached the 31st floor of construction, and will be topped out within August. Significant progress has been made on the residential portion's glass facade.

Alexan Capitol - 350' - 29 Floors

This has (unofficially) topped out. Brick is starting to fly up the sides of this one, and it'll start really looking nice in a few weeks once the facade is further along.

Hyatt Centric Congress (The Avenue) - 346' - 31 Floors

Crane base installed! This is finally going to see some vertical progress after starting site demo all the way back in December.

Block 164 - 272' - 16 Floors

One of the more forgettable projects, this will soon be poking aboveground at the former Brackenridge Hospital site. Blurry photo from ABJ.

1911 San Antonio - ?' - 17 Floors

Renderings finally released, this is for the lot near St. Austin Parish church in West Campus

Dorsey - 170' - 15 Floors

The new tallest in East Austin. Glass starting to go in on the lower residential floors. Columns going up for the 11th floor.

Loren Hotel & Condos - 104' - 8 Floors

This is what ended up at the old Taco Cabana/Pollo Tropical South Lamar site. Pretty boring, but underground parking is nice. Work on the foundation is well underway.

Dariusb Jul 31, 2020 10:45 PM

Thanks for the updates!

The ATX Aug 3, 2020 4:32 AM

Here's my August 2020 list of Austin's tallest projects.

Austin has 15 projects underway between 300' & 850'

Proposed & U/C projects:

44 projects over 300'

24 projects over 400'

19 projects over 500' including 9 between 600' & 850'

Green highlights mean the project is underway

Yellow highlights mean the project was completed in 2020

^^^Love this! Especially with the hills in the background! Will only look grander when the additional towers are added to the skyline.

AviationGuy Aug 8, 2020 3:41 AM

That view is just incredible.

I was noticing today that the view from the Far West overpass is really good. I've always wondered what the view would be from above my trees, since I'm only between 4-5 miles north of downtown. Guess I'll have to get a drone.

AviationGuy Aug 8, 2020 3:45 AM

The ATX, that would be a great pic to post in the Skylines thread.

We got renderings today for what would be the sixth proposed-U/C tower between 700'-850'. The Covid carnage probably won't be known until 2021 or 2022 when the bulk of these projects should have broken ground.

I like how spoiled we are getting in Austin. We are now hoping that a 723' tower doesn't get built. :haha:

I was in the Nashville forum and someone mentioned a proposal in Austin by Karlin Real Estate concerning a 1,000 ft tower. Have any of you heard about this?

I mean, it looks like a prototype for Kylo Ren's helmet. :P I actually like the sloped window panes. It reminds me of the taller (never built) design of the Fairmont in that respect. And I don't mind the color. The height is great, of course, but the form just looks like Gumby or something. I think we're getting too many of these raised boxes with another raised box stacked on top. And that overhang on the west side...I'm just not a fan. You have to remember both the ATX East and West Towers will look this way along with the 4th & Brazos Tower. All four big and tall towers with very similar designs. It's a race to monotony.

Yep. No confirmed height, but based on the renderings, one of these at least could be pushing 1,000 feet. I estimated 950 feet, but I could be off.

Anyway, with this tower now, we'll have 7 towers either under construction (6 X Guadalupe) or proposed that are over 700 feet. Um, Dallas currently has 5 towers over 700 feet. Houston has 11 in that height category. :stunned:

Thanks for the info Kevin and it looks like Austin may surpass Houston in the number of towers over 700 feet! Austin is punching way above it's weight, Nashville too!

Austin has arrived, and appears to be bigger than Nashville and giving Charlotte a run for the money.

Beautiful shot. WOW

Just wait two years. There are five towers U/C between 500' & 850'. If the Covid recession and WFH doesn't kill them, there are at least eight more towers proposed that are between 600' and 825'.
