Anyone know what's happening with Domain tower? It looks like they stopped glassing the superstructure in about halfway up. I haven't seen any changes in a few weeks now.

Also the tower crane is down, too . . . though I'm not sure if a crane is necessary for adding glass.

typically they can install the glass from inside the building. My guess for the stoppage would be either the glass guys are ahead of schedule, or there are procurement delays with getting the remainder of the glass.

Glass/Facade going up has been very paced and slow throughout the whole build, they haven't just stopped.

have been told from a commercial subcontractor there are some glass shortages/supply chain issues going on right now. not on that job but just in general

I spotted Domain Tower II today from South I-35. This is about 2 miles north of the Hays County line (just north of SH-45). The distance is 19 miles. I may also have spotted it last week from the Tractor Supply parking lot in Buda that is inside Hays County. That location is 22 miles away. I'll try to get a photo from there and see if that's what it was I was seeing. I know you can see The Independent from that spot, and even Pinnacle Campus and Palisades West show up there. It's hard to tell here, but it's on the left side of the photo left of the radio tower.

looks like the glass has restarted on the Domain 2 tower. Looks like a few more floors since I seen it last.

It never stopped or restarted, the glass is just being installed that slowly.

It's not tall and shiny and blue, but it technically is a high rise. St. David's North Austin Medical Center at 12221 North Mopac is expanding their St. David's Women's Services of Texas wing, which is at 12221 Renfert Way. They're adding 4 floors to the building for a total of 7.

The FAA permit says it'll be 120 feet.
https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external...0663962&row=14

They're also adding another section on the south side of the hospital that will go up to 95 feet. That section may be under construction already, and there was an FAA permit for a 195 foot crane.

Brasfield & Gorrie Awarded Two HCA St. David’s North Austin Medical Center Contracts

July 16, 2021

The Women’s Center four-story vertical expansion project will consist of a 166,369 sq ft addition, including 4 C-section operating rooms, 36 labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum rooms and 24 antepartum rooms. Following the completion of the vertical expansion, Brasfield & Gorrie will renovate 28,325 sq ft of interior space, adding 30 neonatal intensive care unit beds and 32 full-term nursery beds and 4 post-partum rooms.

The North Austin Medical Center project will add 21,214 sq ft and 32 medical surgery patient rooms. It will include prefabricated exterior wall panels and bathroom pods. With prefabrication, off-site work can run concurrently with activities on site. Less work is contingent on weather conditions or material delivery lead times, which is an advantage for maintaining project schedules. Minimizing the number of workers on site also increases safety.

I saw they had erect a crane over there. Wondering what was being built.

All three of my kids were born in that hospital. Great team there.

Serious question: do we ever think parts of the domain will someday be pedestrian only? I feel like I make this complaint at least once a year, but I find the domain gets worse and worse for peds (and drivers) ....each year. It's not just the road layout that seems like it was designed by a Simon Mall exec's assistant on their iphone, it's the sheer difficulty of having zero traffic lights / only four way stops everywhere.

Personally it feels all unsustainable and temporary to me atm.

Having no traffic lights is what keeps it safe for pedestrians.

davidberko Aug 17, 2021 6:04 PM

It's already safe. Drivers just need to pay attention and yield the right of way. Pedestrians must cross at crosswalks and not jay-walk any random place. Problem solved. The domain is nice. Not as nice as La Cantera in SA but nice. So much housing! Those aerial shots are mind boggling. And when domain 9 is done? Oof :slob:

Riverranchdrone Aug 17, 2021 6:57 PM

The Domain is very dangerous for pedestrians. Traffic lights would solve alot of problems. Already there is almost accidents at every intersection because cars refuse to yield right of way or stop at the stop signs.

Ok, so maybe Austin should add lights at domain Blvd and domain drive, rock rose and esperanza, and palm way and rock rose. And century oaks terrace and esperanza. Probably a few more intersections

Sarcasm noted. But it's still a thing, and has been a thing for a couple of years now. Cars exist, and (whether gas or electric) will exist. People drive them. Not building enough infrastructure to deal with that is bad planning. In my experience being both a ped and a driver, the 4 way stops don't really slow the traffic -- they encourage rolling stops and quick accelerations. At least a traffic light forces a driver to stop fully and wait a beat or more before continuing on. The Domain doesn't need on at every corner, but I can think of one or two places it improve life greatly.
