Wow, kool, that first pic looks sssooo American to me.

A couple more from today.

The Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band was performing on Signal Hill. A little taste of faux history and - at the Queen's Battery - real history...

Watch your step, b'ys. She's pretty well straight down.

One more. This is the Irish couple I eavesdropped in on. They mentioned the cheap direct flights between St. John's and Dublin that WestJet has on offer. Did you know that 85% of the 11,000 seats on the direct flights sold out within 24 hours? WestJet is planning to expand its service from St. John's to Europe, and is currently considering direct flights to Paris and somewhere in Scandinavia. I love WestJet!

It's a pretty quintessentially Canadian setting, but as far as I can tell this is the only substantial city built in that sort of environment. I wish we had a large-ish city in Muskoka or the Madawaska Highlands or something. One in the Rocky Mountains too.

Does Thundey Bay count? It's got forested hills all around, and the north end is on a hill (the south is on a delta). Hamilton and St. Catherines have the escarpment, and Montreal has a hill at least.

27st which becomes highway 97c if you keep on going.

I love this bridge - it's really bold and unique. But to me it looks like a giant one of these:

But unlike Montreal, in Sherbrooke you can't escape the hills. The city's IN the hills. Including the downtown core.

(Learning to drive in Sherbrooke, I never had any mid-hill-launch problems with my (manual) car on those few times I took it to San Francisco. But as a cyclist, it sure hurts that mode of transportation's competitiveness with the other options.)

A few quick pics that I likely have already shared anyway, just to show the downtown isn't flat at all (and nor is the rest of the city) :

I get what you mean. If Bancroft, Ontario was a big city it would be amazing.

A gorgeous day in Sin Jawnz b'y. ;)

I don't understand how it works, but our airport is aligned to facilitate flights to Europe that don't happen often anymore. :haha: So planes from the west usually go out over the Atlantic, turn around, and land in the opposite direction. That's WestJet up there! :D

This girl was hilarious. Her boyfriend was taking pictures of her and she was doing all sorts of kinky poses.

The Cape Spear Trail, heading back to St. John's. You can see Cabot Tower and the iceberg in yesterday's photos in the distance.

And coming back down into my little slice of Heaven. :D
