Okay. I've been bashing my keyboard for a few days on and off just trying to get the shapes drawn on this :hell: and I think I've met my match.
So here is my plea: Does anyone have higher quality site-plans/elevation drawings or a 3d model of the building I can download or connections to someone who I could ask for one of the above? All the angles + curves are killing me. |

Did anyone else hear a rumor that Google isn't going to be moving into this building after all?

As far as completely backing out of the lease, I have no doubt that they would do that if they could do so without eating a huge loss (that's common sense really. In this financial environment you don't want 2x more office space than your headcount requires), but I'm not sure how likely that sort of a deal getting done would be. It seems like a short term sublet would make more sense, but I don't have intel on the details. |
Uncertainty of Google occupying the space is still in the air.

So is this building just sitting empty? Are they even trying to sublease it?

I don't think Google has decided what they are doing. But they are paying rent for the whole building, so I would think they would make a decision sooner rather than later.

Block 185 is the best thing to happen to our skyline! Super unique!

^^ Seriously. Absolutely love this gem. Just wished it was actually occupied. I tried going to Uchiba on the ground floor yesterday and they had a LONG line. Glad to see this part being activated!

Google has placed their name on the building at the main entrance:

Good catch Urbannizer. I wonder if they will start to occupy this year. Austin unemployment is at 3% and seeing lots of (Austin) Google job postings on LinkedIn with "onsite" in description.

Many of the tech stocks did well in 2023. I think the office market will be back before we know it.

Interesting considering Google plans more layoffs soon for its Ads and Sales division.

I noticed this as well. Google does not need this office space right now. They have not been hiring in Austin at all, really. (More because of not hiring much in general than anything Austin specific).
I wonder if they might try to consolidate existing office space (one building over the Target on the east side and the building on 2nd St next to this one) into this new building, but that's pure speculation. Perhaps they simply figured that they were already paying to lease the building, so why not get some free advertisement from it :). I feel like one or two of these buildings would have been subleased if there was a market for it, but that probably would require Google to take a massive loss. |
