Saw this snippet on the REBusiness Online site regarding the Seven RIO project. Looks to be in good shape.

The address is 706 West MLK Boulevard. |
Cool, I can say it will add some significant height in that area.

Here is the site right in front of the old Travis House. As you can see they have some construction equipment and what looks to appear as rebar as well. Anyways sorry for the crappy shot and few construction workers were eyeing me and didn't want them to think I was up to something.

According to the website, only 20-30% of the residents are expected to have a car. This is great for downtown and for the residents(what better place to be car-less in Austin other than downtown/campus area). Also, I think this adds more value(IMO) to downtown as most units built are for wealthier people who probably still drive most places. |
Construction begins at Seaholm plant

Based on the recent "good" news about the start of this project, it seems only the parking garage and the re-development of the power plant are starting. The 30-story apartment building and the rest are still uncertain.

The Tower crane is going up today at the Corazon Apartments site.

I drove by Seaholm today and was surprised to see that some work has already started. There's a construction trailer and large dumpster on site (on the Cesar Chavez side) and some landscaping work seems to have begun.
|
I may have misunderstood one of the stories, but I thought the plant would be done in early 2015 and the tower in late 2015. Maybe I'm crazy.
|
My understanding is that all of Seaholm including the 30 story tower is or will be U/C soon. :)
|
I hope everyone is right about the Seaholm project starting in its entirity. (They did apply for a tower crane permit last October. But as we have seen recently, that doesn't seem to guarantee an imminent groundbreaking.) I would sure like to see someone besides Gables going forward in that area. Trammel-Crow seems to have let the current boom bypass them.

JAMCo builds Bastrop facility; Austin high-rise on track
Hopefully 3rd and Colorado might get built sooner rather than later.......
Jan BuchholzStaff Writer- Austin Business Journal http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/bl...ty-austin.html Cousins officials announced a year ago that the company would break ground late last year on the 30-story office tower. That didn’t happen, but plans might be coming together based upon Greeves’ comments Wednesday in a phone conversation with the Austin Business Journal....... |
I honestly would rather wait 10 years and get retail up in that bitch. I don't think offices should be built in seaholm it pisses me off. It should be something cool. I would honestly rather the city have put money into that and made a farmers market themselves than have had a new central library.:hell::hell::hell:

I wonder if Council is regretting selling Green as one piece to one company? Green reminds me of when I was in school in Los Angeles in the 1980's and their City Council did the same thing with California Plaza on Bunker Hill. It took years to finish and several big changes to the plan...including not building one tower. I hope we get a great cityscape change with Green, however, their latest version could be built anywhere USA. I hope the delay means a better product. Matching twin towers do not belong on the water front IMO. |
