I hope we don't hit a super tall plateau. I'm still hoping for a super duper tall. Never been much for bragging rights. Especially when ground breaking is not imminent or even guaranteed. I do like the design of this and especially the floor count. Imagine how much taller it would be if it was all office, and by imagine, I mean imagine out loud so I can find out without doing any of the math myself. Back to the bragging rights thing...I only read that this would be the tallest in Austin, the State of Texas, and of all the State Capital cities. The last example being WGAS. But.....if this gets built, it will have already beaten out the current supertall u/c for "bragging rights" and will eventually succumb to another supertall someday.
Bragging rights then become futile and destined for dethroning. I suppose I lean more towards "Currently having the distinction of being...". In conclusion, I have put waaaaaay too much thought into this.

I find it quite interesting for us to be pushing above many other cities in the U.S when it comes to high-rise development, who knew we’d be at this point where we get to boast about supertalls here.

We’d also go from having the tallest all residential building west of the Mississippi to having the tallest outside of NYC.

Maybe it's a ruse. Maybe they didn't want to say it was 1042 feet, so the folks in Miami don't jack up The Waldorf another 10 feet. Maybe they'll top it out and say, "1,050??? I guess we just measured wrong."

This was the rare odd project that gained significant height from the original leaked renderings.

All I want for Christmas is to surpass the Chrysler building in height. 22' short I believe with the Waterline and now a new one that is 9' short. If we can't beat 'em, join 'em. Put a huge fu$$$$$ spire on the hood!!!!

Assuming this building gets done (and the early start date points towards financing being in place) - we are definitely the #2 skyline in the state now which is *wild* to me.

Houston without question.

Houston’s had 2 supertalls for 40 years. NYC, CHI, LA, and HOU are the only places in the US that do. That’s gonna change now tho.

Houston has a few visual advantages that Austin will find very hard to surpass:

Houston has significant and imposing office towers that have large floorplates, whereas Austin only has one. Our supertalls are both going to be comparatively skinny, with one of them significantly skinnier. We’d need five or six of these to match the visual impression left by Houston’s peak height and bulk. It isn’t only about height, but also bulk and heft, lack of gaps, and multiple skylines. Houston wins on all counts.

Austin has our topography, river, viewpoints, and development that is still running on many cylinders, as well as a primary skyline that is a touch more aesthetically pleasing, but definitely not larger.

Dallas will continue to maintain bulk on us for the same reasons but I think we're about to overcome them with sheer height and quantity.

This tower will be amazing in our skyline. Almost a point tower on a massive scale. As mentioned earlier, the lighting possibilities are many. Great Design, except for the possible blank wall by the fire station/park!

Yea, perhaps Houston and Dallas will still have more bulk to their respective and beautiful skylines, however Austin is still a much smaller metro by far. And too have the sheer amount of building activity Austin has, it is astounding! Austin is continuing to be super charged DT.

The BIG difference between DT Austin and Houston's / Dallas's central core is the street scene. Austin is a 24 hour city with few surface parking lots left. Judged by the livability of the Downtowns; Austin has the edge right now. This Wilson Tower will just add more folk to the mix in Downtown Austin and is not replacing any current nightlife venue. Yeah!

One of our big contrasts with Dallas and Houston is that our CBD has a ton of residential in the mix, while the others have that classic 20th century business district problem — a CBD that is almost solely office.

Any body have some insider information on this baby actually moving along? I’ve heard this thing starting anytime soon is a maybe at best. Don’t get me wrong, I love this build but don’t want to get swept off my feet too quick.

I wish they could have flipped the design so that wall of glass was streetside across from the park. Was it a setback or something that caused them to not be able to put the glass wall right on the street?
