I am super impressed , and delightful that I was very wrong about my intuition that this areas of King William would be developed so much after many other areas of downtown. It must be difficult to other would be developers holding much more prime envelopes of land watch on the sidelines as these active sites make millions for their owners . Then again, maybe the fact that these are successful just drives the unrealized value of their holdings even higher.

I hope the parking lot across from the police station or the century theatre lot is next. My friend lives on King there, and has talked to the owner of the century theatre property and he's just some old guy holding onto the property. My friend loves she can use it as a personal dog park though.

I would imagine the LRT is going to put some pressure on these land holders to cash in their chips.

I was here today they have two bases of cranes in place. The easterly of the two already had one section in place however they still need to pour the rest of the concrete.

The pour seems to have been done today for eastmost crane.

They use a drone to make sure they can see it in all the necessary places, kinda cool. I didn't know they did that.

For me, this is cause for celebration, so Slainte:cheers: to all of you! I'll be making Margauritas, and keeping Guinness Beer on hand both cold or warm, however you prefer it, all are welcome!

Haven’t seen that green colour on a crane before.

Also - notice there wasn’t any shoring here. Just dug a level down and poured the foundation.

There was shoring done against the alleyway, but otherwise they just dug s 45° angle dig down. You don't need to shore if you're not doing perfectly straight walls.

TheHonestMaple Nov 21, 2021 11:41 PM

Shoring is only required if there is not enough space to dig at an angle like Ritsman is describing. A site like the McMaster graduate student residence requires shoring because it's tight against King Street and the other nearby buildings, so they can't dig at a 45 like this one. The other reason they can dig at angle like this is because it's a really shallow project, only one floor deep. If it was more they would have used shoring since that 45 degree angle would have intersected the surrounding buildings.
