I went to Ingenium on the morning and having never been there before I was beyond impressed. The collection was one thing but the building itself is beyond impressive inside. It's a mix of high end finishes and miltary industrial grade durability. I guess that makes sense as it is serving as probably a 100 year plus archive. The elevators, columns, floors ceilings are beyond oversized.

I had always thought of it as some sort of an overflow building for the Museum next door but that couldn't be further from the truth. The have teams of full time conservationist and archivers working there. There is a full on library there of all types of archives. Not sure what the requirements are to access it.

They have a full time team of people that 3D model the catalogue. The idea being for posterity but also to minimize the number of times an item would be pulled out to examine or reference something.

Truly an impressive building in every way possible. I was not expecting what I saw. Most areas were roped off to kind of just guide you around the front of the different sections which made sense given the volume of people there.

They do guided tours for a single session every Saturday. Limit of 20. $8 for a non member so quite affordable. I will be getting on that soon.

The next spot I went to was the Britannia Water Plant. Guided tour. The guides at each section were great and super informative. Really an incredibly interesting place. Both Britannia and Lemieux island are capable of solo handling all of the cities water needs with some excess. As in.. each individual plant has redundant capacity. The emergency generator they have is capable of powering the entire village of Britannia. They start the generator once a month for maintenance and they pump the power back into the cities grid while doing so.

I thought this map was awesome. Shows all the zones and water mains and perhaps the most interesting is the elevations of all the cities water towers and reservoirs.

Above is a direct link to my Flickr if you want to properly zoom in. The table on the bottom is worth it.

Very cool spot.

On the way out I went to Bayview Yards. Pretty cool interior space. Glad that building was saved from the wrecking ball.

Not nearly as much stuff open today, Sunday. Mostly churches and whatnot but I certainly got a good look around yesterday.
