Sorry speedy - that image is a still from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
Ever since I saw photos of Two International Finance Center (the tower in the foreground) and renderings of Union Square Phase 7 (ICC), I just thought it would be amazing to see these two "titan" towers "standing guard" over the harbor. Now that US7 has reached a significant height, it's cool to see that materialize and this photo really captures that feeling:

I cant believe that they would have the rood open to the public, maybe in China its not a problem, but if that were here in the states then that would never happen, for fear of someone getting sued over dropping a camera over the edge or some crap like that.

ummm photolitherland, think empire state and former wtc. what part of the states are you from... ifc2 has ridiculous security and has got HKMA on the top floors. you need a keycard to get into the lobby so i don't think anyone can just go up there unless you book it with the building for an event or something.

yes but in the empire state building where you go outside the fence is huge and theres no way you could get over that and this fence is small. Also in the empire state building its stepped back so you couldnt throw something off of it, but whatever it doesnt matter. Its awesome and thats all that matters

i was there last month, and rooftop is not open to the public. you can't even get into the lobby from the mall, security is that tight.
sometime ago, I remember emporis stating ifc2 had a observation deck - and its true! if you look now, they don't have it listed.

I thought the HKMA library is still open to the public. That's the de-facto observation deck.
Meanwhile, there actually is a big sign at IFC1 saying there is no observation deck in that building.

I really like the building itself and the comparison with LotR. Are the really going to make some kind of "light connection" between the two buildings like it´s shown here?

What's wrong with the different shades of the cladding. I wonder if it's some kind of a pattern that's appearing, or if it's due to a temporary protective flilm that's partially being removed.

Deutsche Bank selects 12 floors of ICC for its
Hong Kong business
http://www.takungpao.com/2tkp_site2/news/images/08/05/07/HD-2.jpg
6 May 2008
Deutsche Bank is the latest in a series of high-profile names to announce a move to the International Commerce Centre (ICC) in West Kowloon. Currently located in Central, the investment bank plans to relocate its Hong Kong operations to the ICC from the third quarter of 2010.
"We are proud to have Deutsche Bank as one of ICC's most prominent tenants," says Sun Hung Kai Properties Vice Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok. "ICC is one of Hong Kong's most striking and advanced landmark buildings, and the presence of Deutsche Bank is a solid endorsement of that vision."
Part of the mixed-use Union Square complex at Kowloon Station, at 118 storeys and 490m the ICC will be the world's third-tallest building when fully completed in 2010. Offering approximately 2.5 million sq-ft of Grade A office space, the structure has proven to be an especially attractive proposition due to its outstanding location, generously sized floorplates, and iconic, highly efficient design by Kohn Pederson Fox Associates.
Colin Grassie, CEO Deutsche Bank Asia Pacific, said "ICC delivers Deutsche Bank with a world class space solution that accommodates our rapid growth and keeps all our businesses together in one building. ICC meets all the bank's demanding technical and infrastructure requirements."
With an initial 12 floors totaling approximately 420,000 sq-ft, and the right to lease up to 18 floors, Deutsche Bank's overall space commitment and expansion options total 62,000 sq-m gross (equivalent of approximately 630,000 sq-ft), and will take full advantage of the building's inherent scalability and adaptability to a range of current and upcoming technologies. To allow for staff expansion to up to 4,000 from 1,500 currently, and to house all divisions and supporting infrastructure groups into one building, the large unobstructed volumes afforded by ICC's large 35,000 sq-ft floorplates were of particular interest to the investment bank.
Deutsche Bank will join a host of other major international financial firms such as Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley who have selected ICC as the ideal location for their Hong Kong headquarters. Within the same Kowloon Station complex as ICC are The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, Hong Kong's first-ever W-Hotel, the luxury serviced suite hotel The HarbourView Place and the high-end Elements shopping mall.

Wow, nice picture. Just watching all this makes me really want to fly to China for like a year.
Anyways, I always wondered about that. Does the finished section of a supertall get used while the top half of top third is still in construction? Or is it that the interior is being worked on? Or does it depend?

I know several buildings that were being occupied while still U/C.
Eureka in Melbourne, Trump Chicago, ICC in HK...

IMO the cladding looks a lot better when your at close distance than far.
Thanks for the updates.

I agree.
At close distance, the cladding has something of the dragon skin. The windows that overlap slightly are like the scales of the dragon.

I agree as well. The cladding is extremely successful for an all-glass facade.

The glazing is truly the strong point for this building.

I am totally blown away by this photo. I've never seen HK's skyline from this perspective. Is a higher-resolution version available?
It's amazing how IFC2 looks anemic compared to ICC.

Wow, i know that Hong Kong has quite alot skyscrapers, but these pictures show how awesome the skyline really is.
BTW: What is the name of the uncompleted bridge in the first photo? And does anybody know its final height? It seems to be already higher than some of the skyscrapers in the foreground.
