New thread, as we are seeing performance issues. Previous thread got to over 50,000 posts. So we start anew.

Got to 11°C today. Expecting it to finally reach below 0 tonight. Still 2°C at midnight.

14C and rainy today. It was actually not too bad if you were outside as long as you had a roof under you head.

Low of 13C this morning.

The warmspot was Cheticamp, NS and Waterton Gate Park, AB at 20.5C. Looks like chinook winds for that Alberta place. Freezing in the morning, gusty wind switched from North to the SW and then once things calmed down, back to freezing.

Warmest low was Sable Island, NS at 15.4C.

Very heavy rain and high winds overnight. It’s much calmer now but definitely not over.

10C and light drizzle in Moncton at 10 AM, going to 12C with ongoing rain later today.

It was actually quite stormy overnight - a true nor'easter, which had been predicted but not really emphasized so, a bit of a surprise. Heavy rain and winds of 40 km/hr gusting to 60. Lots of leaf fall. Quite a few trees are now bare.

It appears Moncton will fall to the freeze list early Tuesday morning - the predicted low is -1C,

Speaking of the freeze list, it may have started off slow, but there's a likelihood that every remaining city on the list freezes within the next 3-5 days. Even Vancouver and Victoria.

Meanwhile it's currently sunny and 18 in St. John's.

Yep, we may have our first freeze here, overnight. There is definitely a nip in the air this morning.

Also some dramatic colours this morning between the dark clouds, lake, and brightly coloured trees.

Aww, thank you! I gave it a half-arsed shot like a decade ago but decent photos from here are a dime a dozen; you need ambition to make it in a saturated market and I just don't care enough. :haha:

And it's a pretty photogenic city, minus the suburbs, which I genuinely rarely end up in anyway. I don't mind grit so there isn't much I shy away from, with three main exceptions: I'll rarely, if ever, take a picture that shows the Irving oil tanks on the top of the Southside Hills, the rock cuts for the Riverhead sewage treatment plant on Southside Road, or the blank side of the old Fortis Building on Water Street. Everything else, I can make it work with some angle or some strategically-chosen piece of foreground to block out something irredeemable.

Nice to get some mild weather before the long months of winter kick in.

Low of 6C this morning. Not much variation with all the rain.

The warmspots were St John's, NL and Sydney, NS at 18.4C

Beautiful image giallo, and Happy Birthday!

I went out to the ravine next to the abandoned train tracks by Evergreen Brickworks today (near my area of Toronto) to go replace a geocache of mine.
It was a walk made in the evening, so it started feeling cooler by the time I began my walk. (It was about 8C by then, the high was 11C today)
I spotted these funny fruits mentioned in the last few pages (other thread*), whatever they're called, and realized on the way home that a tree with this same fruit is very close to me

There are many 0s this morning across Ontario. Looks like someone will have to look into the data more closely, or wait until tomorrow to see if there are any casualties. So far London is the only one that’s confirmed I believe.

6C and a light rainshower in Moncton at 8 AM, only getting to 9C this afternoon.

Clearing off this evening, which, in keeping with resultant radiational cooling gives us the perfect conditions for a hard frost tonight. Moncton will fall tomorrow morning, with an expected overnight low of -3C. :(

Both London and Windsor fell to the freeze list overnight, but I will refrain from updating the freeze list for now, as their temperatures may still fall slightly, and, Ottawa and Toronto are still at risk. Maybe Marty could do a deeper analysis later today........

I'll probably give it another hour or two before digging into the raw data. Coldest parts of their mornings should be over with by then.

EDIT: Toronto did freeze overnight, Ottawa nothing official yet but is hovering around the 0 mark right now. Need the next hourly observation update.

Wild that Toronto froze. Wasn't expecting that, I guess it's moreso Mississauga froze, less warming effect from Lake Ontario. I know this is true for a lot of weather station locations.

I'm not sure if Cobourg froze. The past 24 hour marker shows +0.9C, I know that's not the official number. I always ask and always forget how you find out the official number.

My backyard thermometer got down to -0.1C. There was a paper-thin layer of frost on the car windshield this morning. Nothing visible on the rooftops.

Ottawa got down to 0C (or -0.3) as has been said.

Gatineau's low was +1 so I am between the two as usual.

Highs in the 20s last week to snow and freezing temps. yesterday. Sounds like we didn't get it quite as bad as some areas south of us who are still dealing with snowfall warnings, but we did get a couple of cms of snow and the roads were a mess. Drive to work was much better this morning and not a lot of the snow has stuck around. Still chilly today but it will be sunny and it will gradually warm up through the week. The weather should be relatively nice for the Heritage Classic on Sunday.

7C and mostly sunny in Moncton at 8 AM, going up to a pleasant 17C this afternoon. The next three days will be 18C, 19C and 22C. As usual we fell to the freeze list because of a brief shot of cold air on the back end of a storm system. If it had not been for that, it would have been clear sailing for at least another week.

Been a pretty warm Fall so far in southern Ontario and Quebec, especially so in Quebec.

Toronto Pearson has yet to register a high below 10.

However, this will all change by the end of the weekend. Toronto will have highs below 10, and it looks like Montreal will join the freeze list.

Currently 17 and raining, going up to 20 with a scattered showers.

Surprised to see Kingston still there. It’s on a Great Lake, but close enough to the Canadian shield that they more easily get hit by the cold air coming from the north. The winds were probably favourable the night the rest of Ontario froze. Montreal is on as island so they typically get more delayed there, so that one isn’t really surprising. The rest is coastal cities except for Kelowna.

On most years, both Montreal and Kingston freeze before Toronto and Windsor. Montreal does have some surprising years though and it often ends up making it to the final 5 or so. London tends to freeze earlier than all of those due to the lack of large body of water in the immediate vicinity.

My observations from the last few years in this very thread anyway, nothing scientific ;).

Sunny for most of the day, then clouded up. High was 20.7 and low was 14.7. Tomorrow could possibly hit 25, then back to seasonal for the weekend and cold by Halloween.

All these freezes seem really early this year. Typically you wouldn't expect to see the first frost in Southern Ontario & BC until November. Some years Victoria has even gone without freezing.

The only location in Ontario that has been a bit early this year is Toronto, which usually makes it into November. Very early for Victoria too, though it has frozen at some point before the end of the year in most of our freeze lists in the last 5'ish years. Everything else is par the course, except for Kingston and Charlottetown, both of which are surprising survivors as we approach November.

17C and overcast. I won't complain since those are awesome temperatures for this time of the year but a little bit of sun would be nice.

Low of 15C this morning. Very pleasant sleeping weather. Windows open and very conformable. That is the flip side of the clouds. Super mild nights.

The warmspot was Kejimkujik Park, NS at 23.6C.

Warmest low was Windsor, ON at 15.2C.

Not even close. The only place that has the potential to go a year without freezing are very isolated BC remote islands in the middle of the ocean. And even that happen VERY rarely.

11C and rain in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to 17C this afternoon. Clearing off this evening, but the overnight low will remain a balmy 12C.

Big changes next week. :(

There’s a chance not a single city makes it to November this year. But looking at the forecast, many of the Maritimes cities may freeze in the early hours of November 1st. Maybe even survive that night but it’s not a given. Kingston and Montreal will likely fall before the end of the month. And Vancouver froze this morning.

The hourly observations show a minimum temperature in Vancouver of +0.5C, but, I believe you. If you want, you can update the freeze list with the actual temperature, or, otherwise, we'll wait for Marty and his "deep dive."

I just checked the link that was shared on a previous page, which I ended up adding to my bookmarks. It shows a low of -0.3C, which doesn’t show on EC’s hourly readings. But I’ll leave it to the “experts”.

It's rare for sure, but has happened: "Victoria has recorded completely freeze-free winter seasons four times (in 1925–26, 1939–40, 1999–2000, and 2002–03)."
