What's causing all the manitoba mosquitoes today? Is it like caused by standing water and warm weather?

Why is this in the Canada thread?
Manitoba having a lot of mosquitos is like saying the sky is blue. With our clay soil stemming from Lake Agassiz, water is absorbed by the ground at a much slower rate then peat or sandy soil, so there will always be tons of still water and as a result mosquitos.

Unless Manitoba mosquitos spread malaria or dengue, I'm not sure why it would be a thread at all.

Some mosquitos have West Nile virus so it’s not all safe.

The worst mosquitoes I have ever seen were in Dinosaur provincial park in AB. I walked off the road and it felt like I'd entered a field of spear grass. The mosquitoes covered every inch of my exposed legs (I was wearing shorts) like pants.

Worst I've ever experienced was near Kitimat, BC in the forest near the Kitimat River. I swear there are a billion mosquitoes per square kilometre in that area.
