From poster Agent Orange on shaggybevo just minutes ago:

Just saw half of the new condo building across from Cuatro's (the old freewheeling store) fall over onto 24th street in West Campus. Crushed a car underneath it. I'm afraid there were some deaths there. Crazy.

What condo would this be?

Agent Orange

The car was driving west on 24th. Right across from laundromat. We jumped out, but it was completely covered with building material.

That would be a new 5 story apartment building, forgot the name. But wow that sucks, maybe we will hear something on the news later.

Looks like it was just the scaffolding. That would have been something if it was the actual building!

Scaffolding collapse. That storm had 50 mph gusts in Southwest Austin. We saw some tree damage around our area in South Austin.

KVUE is covering it now.

The people in the car were okay which is good news.

That storm had to have been stronger than what the NWS said. The kind of damage we have around here including a big tall tree that snapped and fell into the road just a few houses up the street from me, a mailbox that was ripped right out of the ground pole and all as well as other damage just couldn't be caused by 50 mph winds. There was definitely a gust well over 60.

The reason why the NWS did not issue a severe storm warning was because it apparently was just below severe storm criteria but as one local news meteorologist put it was like splitting hairs with regards to classification.

We have been under severe storm warnings several times before with storms that did not cause damage like this storm did. IMO in situations like this with the kind of damage reports that were coming in tonight within the heavily populated areas should have been enough to warrant a warning to be issued. There were a lot of people out that were caught off gaurd and it does piss me off a bit. The NWS needs to change a few things regarding when to issue or not issue a warning but that is a whole other debate.

It was good we got the rain but its going to be a mess to clean up today.

It was " step away from the windows" scare- rey! It's the only time living in a high rise with floor to ceiling glass is not fun! We havn't had wind that hard and Qucik in a very long time.
