This thread is about 3 different places: The Bulltofta field in the north, Sofielund in “south central” and Sibbarp in the southwest outskirts of Malmö.

Let’s start with Bulltoftafältet, the field near Riseberga were Ikea used to be. This is the district were I grew up as little. It’s hill is not only a place to ride pulka wintertime, it also has great views of Malmö, though from a distance.

Some of the nature of Bulltoftafältet, that used to be an important airport until 1972. The airport became world famous for the highjacking of a commercial plane in 1972.

SIBBARP:

Sibbarp is a beach area that is bordering the city limit to the south. It is on the south side of Öresundsbron, that is visible from there. Nowadays many Iraqi families come there at sunset.

SOFIELUND:

Sofielund is gritty, but partly charmy area between Möllevången and the outskirts.
It is divided into Norra (North) and Södra (South) Sofielund. The south part is the one with most problems (crimes and segregation). Malmö’s “mayor” Ilmar Reepalu lives in Norra Sofielund.

I'm surprised that Turning Torso wasn't joined by smaller replicas.
Was there a hostile reaction by the local population ? Or was it intended to remain unique in the first place ?

I think it is hard to find investors for such tall buildings in Sweden, TT was a financial failure in the beginning. But nowadays most citizens of Malmö support highrises, if they look good.
By some reason they want to spread out all new highrises on different places, such as Hyllie.
