I better start saving up!

The cheapest unit available at the moment is $17,175,000. On the 41st floor.

I was thinking, since there are usually 450 members on average on in SSP during the peak of the weekday, if we could all pitch in $38,166, we could all buy and and share it.

Its 3,575 square feet, so that means that we each get about 8 sq ft of living space. Not bad. So we could all essentially stand in it. Or do an on and off thing where half of us get to use it every other day which makes it 16 sq ft of living space. Not bad!

Taxes and maintenance would be cheap too if we all shared.

Problem is there are 2 bedrooms and 3 baths.

Floor Plan: http://432parkavenue.com/floorplans/432_FP_Availability_40-44C.pdf

So it will be the hunger games in there. But if we are serious about this tower, then we must get a piece of the action. I'll put down a 100k, so I get the master bedroom.

I really like 432 Park I always have. It's just a cool building. I love the simple box design & the use of the concrete. It definitely reminds one of the Twins. A non-tapered, box design really showcases height & structure. It's going to have some company soon with the Nordstrom ;)

Sorry Ron I can't say I can see the resemblance. The twins were clad entirely with narrow strips of vertical aluminum and glass versus 432 which has big square windows and exposed concrete grid.

It looks great going East on I-78 as the NYC skyline mass approaches in the distance. Visible even before you reach Hillside. Usually one can see the ESB clearly, and 432 Park peeks right over the hills.

about post # 7737 -
in top picture it looks like the GM building . . has spots lighting up its columns . .
(near the top of the west facade) . . I think that's new .
in the 2nd picture - 1717 Broadway (to the left of 432) . . .
looks like those wild blue lights at the crown might be kinetic (undulating) ? . .

. . When 432 residents move in - the blue tinted window film will be gone . .
and unfortunately most of the windows will be dark . .
I'll also miss the orange construction netting on the mechanical floors . .
The blue - orange - and white composition of the building under construction . .
makes it so lively-lookin' and graphic ! . . 432 looks really great right now as it is.
We're lucky to be noticing it at this phase of its fruition.

Funny thing, a friend of mine who lives on the Hudson near the GW bridge asked me, "what's that tall building that looks like its made of legos and is red, white and blue year round? It's so tall and looks out of place."

I managed to tell her that its a residential tower, the windows are only covered by blue plastic for protection now, and its one of MANY very tall skinny buildings to come.

Every day people I tell ya :haha:

I agree with artspook. I will miss the blue lights. IDK, but this tower will probably look better u/c and topped out, then fully finished in time due. In which, it will not be 100% occupied, and so, it will at times look dark.

How tall can NYC's skyscrapers go?

As towers surpass 1,400 feet, one structural engineer predicts 2,000-foot spires are around the corner—and maybe even half-mile-tall spires will follow suit.

The growing list of super-tall, ultra-skinny towers—reaching higher than 1,400 feet—has raised the question of just how far New York City developers will dare venture into the sky.

Although it may be difficult to predict what materials and engineering advances will permit, one structural engineer who has worked on several soaring buildings, including 220 Central Park South and a spire planned at the site of the Park Lane Hotel, said it won't be long before 2,000 feet or even a half-mile high will be possible.

According to Stephen DeSimone, who operates his own firm, DeSimone Consulting Engineers, cement and steel have doubled in strength in the past 10 years and already make structures up to 2,000 feet possible. Mr. DeSimone expects those materials to become 50% stronger in the next five to 10 years, allowing developers to build even higher structures with less bulk.

"The whole point of going high is to have big windows to enjoy the view," Mr. DeSimone said. "If you have thick concrete supports and structural elements everywhere, it impedes that. But that's changing."

The last major roadblock to building upward has been creating sophisticated dampening mechanisms to reduce the natural sway that gigantic towers experience from wind.

"People who buy $90 million penthouse apartments don't want to feel like they're in a boat," Mr. DeSimone said. "Right now, engineers and builders are exploring the idea of advanced dampening systems that will anticipate the motion of a building and counteract it before it even sways. This is the last hurdle in building taller than we are already."

New buildings like 432 Park Ave. use an internal pendulum—a gigantic pile of steel plates hung on cables inside the top of the tower—to stabilize the building during gusts of wind. As the tower moves, the pendulum stays put and counteracts the shifting. The building at 220 Central Park South, which is even more pencil-like than the 1,400-foot tall 432 Park Ave., has a 1,000-ton dampening pendulum on its unoccupied top floors, according to Mr. DeSimone.

But those systems are reactive, Mr. DeSimone said: They resist movement once it happens, but don't anticipate it with sensors that detect wind and building sway in time to offset it. Towers that soar even higher than those properties will need such technology because structural movement becomes more pronounced at extreme heights of 2,000 feet and beyond.

"Systems are being developed where a building's interior pendulum can be controlled to move ahead of time," Mr. DeSimone said.

That is without a spire!
And think about this, we are getting even more supertalls on the Billionaires Boulevard to add more texture and density to the world's most exciting skyline! :)

Such a pure form. It's good that we as humans can't fly. Because I would just circle the building, looking down on it. It would be weird for the people inside.

I don't think so (to either point). The tops of buildings aren't always lit.

Look at this photo for example.

wow that is an awesome perspective.. really stands out from there..

speaking of shadows.. did anyone catch the NPR segment yesterday about exactly that topic? they had some dumbass from city council, who im sure someone on here could identify, who was proclaiming the terrors of the shadows these buildings will create. They called out the "billionaires" who will be buying the units, and generally made a mockery of the whole thing. The story began with mentioning the new emergence of supertall skinny towers in midtown, and i was thinking cool i follow these, maybe it will be a cool spot about the awesome new architecture! then two seconds later, "and the controversy over the shadows they will cast on central park"..

wish i could find the segment. just looked and couldnt track it down, but it was the same old crap we've heard before

I know that highway well. That pizzeria is run by Dominicans & there pizza is terrible. Don't go there.

Your the man Pete. Last thing anybody wants to have is terrible pizza and thanks for the tip as I am taking that route for a couple of weeks (doing vapor sampling in Paterson then Newark). Every pizza should be a sacrament because it is one of the elite types of food. Although ever since I had some Di Fara pizza in Midwood a couple of months ago, nothing has come close. I'll be sure to avoid it. Probably overpriced garbage too. I noticed bad places tend to be overpriced, and make pizza that tastes like wet cardboard laced with cat piss.

If there's one town with horrid pizza, its Cherry Hill, NJ. Avoid. I hit up a bunch of those places last year while doing my Hazwoper training and they all suck.

But anyways, the skyline does creep up on you. That's the nice thing about NJ. Depending on which highway you take, you can go from seeing trees and car dealership signs to seeing a super long, world class skyline.

My personal favorite is taking the Broad Street ramp from 78 into Newark. Can see NYC in the distance, and on a clear winter day, the smoke of the factories, and the dark contrast of the skyline gives me those euphoric chills.

We can also see several other projects. 30 Hudson for example.

There's a larger resolution version in the aerial thread for NY.

And this is why Hell's Kitchen/Clinton needs to be rezoned!

I think that after the current megaprojects in Midtown East & Hudson Yards are done, the next areas to be rezoned in Manhattan will be around Penn Station (once the current MSG kicks the bucket and Moynihan Station phase 2 is happening) and Madison Square Park (to pay for 2nd Avenue phase 3 perhaps?)

To get rid of the last actual neighborhood in Midtown? I'd rather keep the 19th century housing stock.
