Tootling around T-town

I took a walk around a few of the older neighborhoods near downtown Tulsa this weekend to capture some of the beautiful fall foliage. The weather was perfect, except for a bit of haze. I hope you all enjoy!

Cherry Street. I am not sure the exact name of this neighborhood, but it lies north of Cherry Street (aka 15th Street) and south of the BA Expressway. This area is really starting to densify with lots of these modern loft projects.

And here are some photos from a recent hiking trip to Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area, which is located on the west bank of the Arkansas River. This hill offers rugged hiking/biking trails and really nice views of the city.

Thanks for the tour. Those older residential hoods are beautiful.

I was just in Tulsa this past weekend for the UH/TU game. We certainly didn't see these areas! Wish we had. We stayed at the Doubletree @ Warren Place although we spent most of our time downtown.

We had a great time in (near?) downtown at some Irish-ish pub and El Guapo across the street. I loved El Guapo's roof terrace for the views of downtown.

Tulsa reminds me of Austin, a LOT. Very green and hilly, with a prominent river.

I agree that Austin and Tulsa share a lot in common with respect to their terrain. Now if only Tulsa was as progressive and vibrant as Austin. Maybe someday :tup:

Ha, if only Tulsa had a massive state university located near downtown it would probably be BETTER than Austin. ;)

Tulsa is great, it just lacks good leadership and high-paying jobs. Lots of old wealth there but not too much for young professionals, which is absolutely necessary and why Austin is the way it is. TU is a good school close to downtown (more so Midtown) but is so small, only like 4,000 students. OSU-Tulsa has a campus on the northside of downtown but they are growing VERY slowly after announcing 20,000 students there by 2020, haha I wish! The river is amazing, very wide (at least a quarter mile) and the River Parks are full of biking/jogging trails. If only the river tax would've passed this asset could've lived up to its potential, but hey maybe next time. It took three elections before an arena could be built downtown so who knows.

Living in Norman it's nice to go back home and see all of the hills. The Osage Hills on the westside of the city and more so to the northwest are very similar to the hills near Austin but with different trees and vegetation. If you drive another hour or so to the east you run into the western extent of the Ozarks, the largest mountain range between the Rockies and Appalachians.
