like to see replaced with another from another city?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am from Los Angeles and am upset with some of the choices we get stuck with.

We get stuck with these awful Frank Gehry designs that looks like some wreck whilst New York continue to get the creme of the crop,, the sleekest state of the art, award winning green buildings like BOA, and innovative designs like citicorp, and lipstick.

I'd gladly sacrifice our biltmore hotel and tower to get something like comcast in Philadelphia or replace that grey slab behind the park fifth proposal to fit in with cal plaza 2.

Too many unsuitable projects have been approved that shouldn't have. I remember the hype that home savings tower got before it was constructed.

I can't remember who it was who said it but this person saying how Home Savings was to be comparable with the Chrysler building in New York which isn't remotely true. I don't see how anyone could say that with a straight face.

It's just a replica of the plaza hotel in New York. :yuck:

Anyhow, that building was a mistake like our new pershing square. :haha:

I wish whoever approves of these projects would put more thought into some of these ridiculous designs we have to live with.

Mobile could trade Greensboro the AmSouth Bldg. for the Lincoln National Bldg. Just make it the same height as the AmSouth Bldg. It could also trade Charlotte Government Plaza for Odell Plaza.

I suppose but I would think we'd have more and better designs.

I had high hopes in the early 80's. We had somewhat of a building boom that rivalled that of the 1970's with some fairly impressive designs.

At the end of 1984 we were being promised library tower and grand place at 75 and 67 stories giving me the impression we were really progressing. then in january (1985) I saw the design and told myself I don't know if I like those two they look like something out of the dark ages that could send us back in time. If only I'd known about all the dissapointment to come I wouldn't have bothered waiting.

After 2 &1/2 years of delays they broke ground on it but eventually did away with grand place to downsize it like they always do with a
shorty (52 stories) Gas Comp tower. What's worse, cal plaza two was downsized. I hate it when they do that.

There was next to nothing in the 90's and still no skyscrapers. The one project I am glad that died is the Olmypic and Cty house which have no place in our city.

Which one of ours do you think looks good?

I don't think Seattle needs any buildings gone. They're all awesome an the ones that aren't changed history in a big way for Seattle. Oh I think the new Ritz in L.A. is nice.

Not many people even mention the MTA Headquarters when it comes to good LA buildings.

Anyway, I'd swap Aon Center for BofA Plaza in Dallas.

I'd replace 1760 Market Street with...anything. If I had to choose it'd have to be Chicago's Donnelly Center or Title & Trust Building. 1760 Market looks like an aborted Citgroup Center.

I guess everyone from a city without a 1000 foot building would want to steal one but I'd be happier walking around a place with a sea of well placed, well massed and well designed buildings not cracking 600 feet than a forest of ugly supertall buildings. Whenever someone poses a question like this I never seem to want one.

Replace Atlanta's BOA with Nashville's "proposed" Signature Tower. I know it isn't even under construction yet but if it were here it would already be going up.

Oh, come now. Seattle has a number of great buildings, but Wells Fargo Center, Henry M Jackson, Qwest Place, 1111 Third Avenue and Financial Center are not among them - very crappy all.

I'm from Kansas City and anybody from there would agree that the AT&T Long Lines building is the biggest eyesore within the downtown loop. Just demolishing that box and replacing it with a parking lot would be an improvement. But if I had to choose a replacement building of the same approximate size, I'd probably steal one of the twin towers at 4600 Main north of the Plaza (in Kansas City). I wish I had pictures. I guess now I'll have to take some with my new camara. Tosspot and KC Gridlock might disagree with me since they know which buildings I'm talking about.

Most of LA's skyscrapers are just boring boxes. I'd love to trade one of those boxes for the Bank of China in Hong Kong. I love that building.

I would like to send Philly's Two Liberty Place (it's redundant here) to Chicago and take in it's place Water Tower Place. The two buildings are about the same height. We'll have to rebrand the hotel, there is already a perfectly good Ritz Carlton here. We don't need the shopping mall either since Liberty Place has it's own although maybe some of the tenants would be good. (Chicago can keep Oprah though) Thanks to volguus zildrohar for the original Philly image
