sort of like that HGTV show National Open house - every week it picks 3 cities and shows you what x amount will get you in terms of real estate in each of the cities...

in Greater Vancouver $500,000 will get you this:

$500,000 - New Westminster - MLS®: V627273

http://pictures.mls.ca/mls/reb89/medres/3/v627273_1.jpg

$508,000 - East Vancouver - MLS®: V627417

$508,000 - Richmond - MLS®: V625102

a couple of years ago you couldnt even find a house for half a million in winnipeg....today there are 2 million dollar homes on MLS, including one at 1.5m.

$500 000 certainly doesnt get you what it used to, but you can still get a 4000 s.f. riverside house in one of the most prestigious neighbourhoods in the city:

Thunder Bay really needs to get it's act together and fix the south end. The city's official plan lays out about 40 buildings that would be great for lofts, and has plans to turn the area between Simpson Street and the Kam into "loft central" :P

We should show them those pictures, maybe they'll get up off their asses and actually do something to make that a reality? :)

I totally miss the prices we had just 2 years ago in Edmonton.

In my newer neighborhood you can't even get a house with an attached garage for under 400 grand. And there is a small 1500sqft 2 story with double garage a few blocks from me for 469k.

I really feel for the people that haven't bought something yet. It isn't an easy market to get into anymore. I'm just glad I built my 2000sqft home 2 years ago for 300k because it would easily be 500+ now and my income has only increased about 10% in the last 2 years... :(

It's great to move TO Regina; you feel like you are the richest person in the world. The problem is when you have to move FROM Regina. You get those same prices when you sell and have very little money for a down payment anywhere else in Canada. My family experienced it when I moved with my parents from Regina to Ottawa in the late 1980's.

True enough.

But for someone moving from Calgary to Regina, they can sell their house for $600,000 buy in a nice Regina area for under $200,000, buy a cottage on one of the lakes and still have enough money for little Timmy's education fund.

I don't think anybody even comes close to being as thrifty as your average Pegger. It must be in the water.

My mom had an Italian boyfriend before I was born, and she and him went to Toronto in I tihnk 87 to the CNE, and they had two thousand dollars, and he kept saying "No, save your money, the CLE is in town in a couple weeks!" :haha:

She brings it up every time you mention cheap Italians. :P But Thunder Bay has it's share of tight wads too, the only thing they splurge on is hair gel!

You can't be a self respecting Italian with out it!

Can't believe this house is for sale... Former owner: the late Pierre Elliott Trudeau. I guess Justin needs some liquidity to run his campaign in Papineau!

Those are insane. How close to Montreal's CBD are they?

I'd say that the Third, fourth and sixth pictures are downtown.

if I'm not mistaken, the last one is Celine Dion's house...on her own private island in the middle of the St-Lawrence River! But then again, i might be wrong!

OK, I know the difference, but Outremont and Snowdon arent exactly stretching the Island of Montreal. You can get some McMansions in Kirkland and Dorval....just saying.
