hkskyline and InitialD18 Visit Prague
Back in May, we had a Hong Kong forum meet in London and subsequently the two of us went to Prague and Berlin for a holiday. While my Berlin photos were posted long ago, it took a bit more time to go through my Prague photos due to my busy schedule. Here is the first of many threads to come.

Impressions
Prague is an amazing city - the most beautiful I have ever seen. The city has kept its historic charm intact, and the town centre is very manageable to walk and explore. Food and accomodations were very cheap. We rented an apartment about 15 minutes from the town square, and a decent meal in the tourist trap district averaged about 3-4 euros. The city was bursting with tourists even though it was early May, and the locals in the town centre seem to speak English fairly well.

These types of buildings are plentiful throughout the city centre.

These are just random photos from a number of streets we explored to start. We haven't even hit the main tourist sights yet. I set a new record for photo-taking during our 4-day visit. I couldn't help it with blue skies keeping us company from start to finish.

Do they accept Euros in Prague ?

Euro is widely accepted in Prague, for common shopping I recommend the TESCO that is right in the centre of the City, but you'll save a lot of money using Czech crown.

BTW prices in the centre are 2x - 4x higher than on other places.

The colorful facades are appealing. It's nice to see that the city center was left untainted by the mediocre urbanization of the 60s and 70s.

Thanks for the info.

€ tends to be accepted in most major EU-non-EMU-cities (don't know how it is in London/the UK though) throughout Europe.
In Copenhagen and Malmö you can choose between €, DKK and SEK for example, even though the best deal is using the country's official currency in the city you're in.

Nice shots, hkskyline!

I used CZK throughout my trip, and exchanged my EUR at the TESCO (my apartment was very close to it) since they offered the best rate (1 EUR = 29 CZK I believe) with no commission. I usually went there to get something cheap and then drop off a 10 EUR to get CZK change. They balked at my 20 EUR saying it's way too big.

My recommendation for anyone is to always use the local currency, just be diligent about taking out too much. ATM's are everywhere, and Tesco will let you debit your purchase.

i did this as much as possible in Colombia and got some marvelous rates. 200,000 colombian pesos came out to $88.75 at most ATM's, which is literally 30 cents off of what XE.com said. Meaning, there was no middleman, I got the price a Colombian would get without losing anything in the translation.

i'm debating with myself as to whether i will move back there. lived there for 3.5 years, and i miss it like hell (and europe; prague is well-positioned to visit other parts of the continent).
