For the third consecutive year I'm strating this thread, hopefully I will not be the only poster this year??;)
Laval starts first, but I think that U Montreal deserves the first spot since Laval lost key players during the off-season.

I'll make the trip to saskatoon if the Golden Bears make it to the Vanier. I believe they graduated their QB and #1 running back so I doubt it...surprised they are ranked so high.

Normally I would see this as a bad sign and foreshadowing a last place finish, but since the Pre-historics are my team I hope this kid will be lightening in a bottle and carry the team back to the Vanier Cup? GO DINOS!

Looks like its going to be another tough season for my team....maybe we can atleast win our homecoming game........although that might spark more car-flipping-and-burning then usual.

......the crowd at Laval vs Montreal was unbelievable. I don't understand why other universities can't come close to matching the atmosphere.

Here's the pictures of a new stadium being built for the McMaster Marauder, it's going to be called the Ron Joyce Stadium (6,000 - 10,000 seats). The stadium is taking time to be built because it'll include underground parking.

At the back is the new David Braley Athletic Centre that's still under construction. As you can tell McMaster is completely redeveloping it's athletic department.

Maybe the Penguins can play there when they move. Why would the university waste money on a stadium when Hamilton already has a decent stadium?

Same reason Regina plans to put in a stadium surrounding the already existing turf field.

At least in Regina's case, Mosaic stadium is way to big for CIS football. When you have 24,000 empty seats, that does not make for a good environment. Plus, they would rather have the games held on campus. But, no word as to when the stadium will go in.

CCF if there was a little more promotion/support there is no reason why crowds of 7-10 thousand couldn't show up. How big would your field be on campus?

Well, football games are attended in large part by those who live on campus. Since games aren't played on campus, those students aren't going to go to Mosaic.

It doesn't help that the team is very bad. I'm not sure how big they are planning for, since plans are mostly in the very early stages. There are other projects that are in line first.

CIS Top 10 (#6): favourites keep rolling

OTTAWA (CIS) - The signpost of CIS football has stayed the same through the first six weeks of the season: Laval.

The Rouge et Or rolled out 577 yards of offence on their way to a 38-6 road win against Sherbrooke Saturday to continue a season-long streak as the No. 1 team in Canada.

The top eight teams are unchanged this week, with Saskatchewan and McMaster rounding out the top-three, but not enough to topple a second straight unanimous vote for the three-time defending Quebec conference champions.

With the victory over the Vert & Or, Laval extended its win streak in regular-season play to 17 games and is now undefeated in 18 straight overall against Quebec University Football League opponents. Fourth-year running back Pierre-Luc Yao, the QUFL leader with five touchdowns in 2006, now has 27 for his career, five short of the all-time conference mark of 32 set by Ottawa's Phil Côté from 1996-00.

The Rouge et Or visit Bishop?s (1-3) on Saturday. Laval blanked the Gaiters 29-0 on Sept. 23 for its 14th consecutive win over Bishop?s dating back to 1997.

The Saskatchewan Huskies are back to form at No. 2 following a 55-10 road win over Calgary - one week removed from a nail-biting late-game two-pointer over UBC.

The Huskies are one of two teams in Canada with a 5-0 record, sharing the honour with McMaster, having not lost to a Canada West opponent over 18 straight games.

First-year quarterback Bret Thompson has been a quick study within the University ranks as the three-time Canadian junior football champion has jetted up the CIS charts to be tied for the lead in touchdown passes this season with 11, after throwing four against the Dinos. Huskies lineman Chris Eckert, the Canada West defensive player of the week, chipped in three sacks.

Next up for Saskatchewan, the game of the year in the Canada West. The Huskies host the 4-0 Manitoba Bisons on Saturday (3:30 p.m. local, The Score) having won the last five head-to-head meetings, including a pair of close calls in 2005 (27-21, 18-17). Manitoba, coming off a bye week, should be well rested and ready to challenge for first place in the conference.

McMaster has entrenched itself in the No. 3 ranking. A 37-5 win over Queen's gave the Marauders five wins and no losses to remain the only OUA team with an unblemished record.

Marauders running back Andre Sadeghian, a first-season transfer from UBC, carried the ball 25 times for 190 yards against the Golden Gaels and his three touchdowns give him a CIS-leading 10 this season.

A familiar foe in familiar surroundings awaits. The Marauders host defending Vanier Cup champion Laurier on Saturday (2:00 p.m. ET, The Score). The seventh-ranked Golden Hawks (4-1) have won the last four head-to-head match-ups, including playoff victories the last two seasons.

The rested Bisons are holding steady at No. 4 for a third week, but have their eyes two spots up in the rankings and one province over.

Regardless of the result Saturday in Saskatoon, expect a flood of points between the Bisons and Huskies: Manitoba has outscored its opposition by an average of 43-14, while Saskatchewan is just a rouge behind at 41-14.

The Ottawa Gee-Gees remain in the OUA race after a 34-5 win over Guelph to stay at No. 5 for a third straight week.

Junior quarterback Josh Sacobie blitzed back after sitting out a game to score two rushing touchdowns with another touchdown via the pass against the Gryphons to help the Gee-Gees improve to 4-1 on the season.

Ottawa visits Kingston, Ont., Saturday for a game against struggling Queen's (2-3), which is on a three-game losing streak. The season is in their hands as the Gee-Gees three remaining conference opponents have a combined record of 4-11.

The other undefeated team in Quebec is at No. 6 after the Concordia Stingers determinedly sapped the fun out of Bishop's homecoming with a dominant 41-11 road win.

The 4-0 Stingers have a stingy defence, having allowed just 37 points in four games for a CIS-best 9.25 per outing, while reigning QUFL player of the year quarterback Scott Syvret takes care of business on offence leading the conference with 10 TD passes against just three interceptions.

Concordia hosts cross-town rival McGill (1-3) on Saturday (1:00 p.m. ET, RDS) for the 20th annual Montreal Shrine Bowl having defeated the Redmen five straight times since a heartbreaking 10-6 loss in the 2002 Dunsmore Cup final.

The Vanier Cup champion Golden Hawks have learned that even its weaker neighbour still has bite worth worrying about.

Laurier remains at the No. 7 spot for a second week and stays in the OUA race at 4-1 after holding on for a 24-21 win over just-across-the-street Waterloo, a team the Golden Hawks had outscored 143-21 in the previous three head-to-head duels. The Hawks overcame six fumbles in a generally ugly game to claim a fourth straight win over the Warriors.

The road only gets tougher. Laurier travels to Hamilton for a date Saturday with the 5-0 Marauders knowing that a victory combined with a win by No. 5 Ottawa against Queen?s could knot the OUA standings with three teams at 5-1.

Montreal continues at the No. 8 spot after a resounding 29-3 win over McGill.

The Carabins piled on 460 rushing yards as a team, including 216 with one touchdown by 2005 all-Canadian Joseph Mroue. Montreal had only one offensive touchdown in the opening three games of the season.

Fourth-year safety Maxime Gagnier had two interceptions to bring his career total within one of the QUFL record of 20 set by Concordia's Stephane Chapados from 1986-90 and five back of the CIS record (24 - Bob Coffin, Sask., 1970-74).

Montreal hosts Sherbrooke (2-2) Saturday in a battle of the latest entries to the CIS. The Carabins, which joined in 2002, are 4-0 versus Sherbrooke since the Vert & Or joined one season later.

The Alberta Golden Bears climb one spot to No. 9 after claiming a winning record by the slimmest of margins.

After a 39-36 overtime victory over winless Simon Fraser, Alberta's three victories have come by a combined margin of just six points.

Freshman running back Tendayi Jozzy finished with 107 rushing yards to extend his CIS-leading total to 711 yards, an average of 142 yards over the first five games. Jozzy needs to keep an average of 145 per game over his last three outings to tie the Bears single-season record of 1147 yards set in 2003 by Jarred Winkel, currently on the developmental roster of the Edmonton Eskimos.

Alberta (3-2) has a bye this week before a home date with provincial rival Calgary on Oct. 14.

UBC is back at No. 10 after coming out on the right side of the highest scoring game of the season, and fourth-highest in CIS history.

The Thunderbirds outlasted Regina 60-48 in a game that took nearly four hours as fifth-year senior quarterback Blake Smelser passed for four touchdowns and 392 yards. But the defence was no match for Rams quarterback Teale Orban, the Canada West player of the week who passed for six touchdowns and 548 yards, the fourth highest single-game total in CIS history.

UBC will host the struggling Simon Fraser Clan (0-4) Saturday with Lower Mainland bragging rights and the 29th annual Shrum Bowl hanging in the balance. UBC has won four straight against the Clan, which is on a 13-game losing streak, including a 40-33 overtime loss to the ?Birds in the 2005 Shrum Bowl.

It wasn't until the third quarter we started yelling that. Even so, that's pretty tame and fans at PEPS have been accused of much worse. All in good fun.

I remember school being cancelled once in SW Manitoba on account of extreme cold (-30 C) and a blizzard. Mind you, that was in October..

Seriously -20 celcius... Why the fuck is CIS hosting the Vanier Cup in such a place when it's that cold in november.

We have been warning you since last week about the beautiful weather. :cheers: We have had the Grey Cup out here in weather like this and now the Vanier Cup. Sad thing is we could easily sell another 5-10 thousand tickets if they were available. Maybe next time.

I can only hope that common sense will prevail when it comes to playing the college football championship for the Vanier Cup in the expected -20 to -30 Celsius temperatures expected on this coming Saturday.

Surely, there must be some alternate venue available and, though it may be expensive to transfer the game to another location, it would certainly show that we have some concern for the youth of our country.

To expect young men to risk their lungs, limbs, hearts and lives in such conditions would, it seems to me, display a complete lack of humanity.
