Interesting Facts/Records (in own words): WGU-20 was built for transmitting spoken news in case of national emergency especially in case of war on the longwave frequency 179 kHz. The station transmitted during non-emergency case its id and a spoken time message. The station used the first all-solid state transmitter with a power output of 50 kW in the world.
WGU-20 was the prototype of a planned network of longwave emergency transmitters in the USA, but this was not realized for financial reasons.
