All of these random pictures were taken on my trip this weekend. I didn't really focus in on anything in particular, I just took shots of random scenes throughout the city..

Enjoy!

Five Points skyline:

Vulcan is cool, but he would be cooler if he were 2,000 feet tall and had a big laser.

Skyline from Highland Avenue:

LSyd's apartment building:

More apartments in the Highland area:

Beautiful old building by 280. I like how there are no overheard powerlines lining the main roads. Definitely not Nashville-esque ;)

A VERY old area:

The Junkyard Bar:

The skyline from the Tutwiler Hotel:

Finally, a gorgeous sunset from the Radisson Hotel Southside. I wish I could have been up on Vulcan Mountain to see it! It was gorgeous! (look at that Southside density, too!)

Wow, very nice, Justin!!! The Five Points aerial must have been shot from the Radisson.

Great shots Justin, I think Vulcan looks fine with his "cheekless" chaps on. HAHA!

To mark your choosing of Birmingham, I think you should bake a ham..... with a peach glaze. :)

Randy,

yup :)

LOL, Halo - that's cute :)

I'm going to Birmingham to look at condos this weekend. I'm going to buy something in the 80k-100k range. Devin is going to live with me ;)

cool pics, except for the one of The Garage (the junkyard bar.) you got the "cleanest" part of it in that pic...

Vulcan does need a "laser" like that building in Shenzen.

Actually, the "laser" would not be decorative... it would be aimed at Nashville :D

Wow very lovely shots indeed!

BTW, that laser would just hit Athena's gleeming 24 karat gold exterior and deflect off and end up hitting Columbus instead. And then Athena and Vulcan would make hot steamy statue love.

Well, actually, it would bounce off of Athena and hit Atlanta

Sorry Athena...Vulcan already has a girlfriend. Her name is Electra, and she lives on top of the Alabama Power Building in Downtown Birmingham:

Miss Liberty became so jealous of Vulcan and Electra's love affair that she fled from her perch atop the Liberty National Building on 20th Street and now lives in solitude along I-459 at Liberty Park. But at least she's closer to Birmingham's best shopping (The Summit and the Riverchase Galleria) than Electra...LOL:

:haha: at Randy

Nice shots, Justin! I was driving through the east side and Downtown and Southside around sunset and I just couldn't help but notice how beautiful (in a gritty, urban way, actually) the city is. I loved seeing the lights turn on in eighty, ninety, and hundred-year-old buildings. I loved seeing the people riding around on bikes at night around the factories, I loved seeing the street lights at 5 Points turn on and seeing people come out and walk around even thought it's only a Monday night. I wish I had a camera, and I wish I knew how to really take great shots. Tonight was such a photogenic night, perfect, I wish you guys could've saw what I saw.

Good luck on your move, of course, Justin! Maybe I'll see you at the Galleria or just walking around somewhere, since we'll be living in the same town now :)

LOL, Randy!

I totally agree with your assessment, Jazzy.Walking through the city is an amazing experience. Let me paraphrase something I said on SSA...

Birmingham just feels like home. Every time I arrived in the city, I've had this feeling. I know it isn't booming like Atlanta or Nashville - but it just has something the newer cities lack. I can't really describe it, either.

I know that when Birmingham makes a rebound, I want to be there, because when it does, watch out - it will be incredible. I feel like I can make a difference in making the city even better than it is now by being there.

Birmingham may have had a rocky past, but for all that she's been through, she's done pretty damn well for herself :)

It's always good to champion the underdog ;)

Awesome as usuall Justin. You've captured Birmingham's urban character almost perfectly.

HAH! Electra. What a skanky hoe.

What makes you guys think that Vulcan isn't capable of sleeping around? Electra doesn't have to know.

Very true. There are reasons why Nike is so tiny and also in Athena's hand...I imagine there are quite a few lonely nights up there in the Parthenon. Oh the trials of being a virgin goddess. Its not easy you know. ;)
