Looks like this one incorporates the facade of a historic building?

Jimby
Dec 27, 2012, 5:25 AM
No, it is a faux historic facade to make it look like 3 buildings. This proposal is getting a little stale as it has been around for 4 or 5 years with no forward traction.

It looks like it, but this is getting built on a parking lot.

No, there doesn't appear to be a historical building on that site. Looks like it'll just be a faux-historical base, unless I'm looking at Street View all wrong.

Looks nice, though I dislike the skewers on top. They look a bit fussy in the rendering.

Hmmmm, if it's a fauxstorical facade, send this bad boy back to the drawing board.

Why? Calgary doesn't have that many pre-war buildings. Its tallest is barely over 50m. I think if done right this will look great

They have exterior and interior renderings up on their website for those interested.

I like this one fr the most part, just don't like that hotel portion with the fake historical look.

I like this one! Better than 3EC. Hope it ends up taller, if it gets built!

To my unrefined eye (tmue), I like this one too. The masonry part doesn’t read as fake historical to me, and I like the way it goes with the two other styles.

There is no historical building on this site. They are just making it look like they are incorporating one. Right now the lot has a convenience store and a strip mall with a few restaurants. It is far from construction stage as tenants are still occupying the existing building.

Unfortunately it is fake historical. That's the only part of the building I don't care for.

I haven't seen any news on Kings on Fourth in a while. Does anyone know if it is still on?

I think this one is still in the works, but taking a back seat while La Caille focuses on Vogue. I'd assume this will be the next project for them in the Downtown Core though

I just love the Fairmont (Palliser) hotel! Reminds me a lot of the Hilton & Towers Hotel on South Mich. Ave. in Chicago, albeit smaller. I sure hope Kings on 4th gets built this this cycle. Got a funny feeling, these proposals are coming in very "fast & furious"!

Follow up on previous post. I wonder if they'll re-design this baby?

Kings on Fourth has been reactivated.

At 210 meters it will be Calgary's sixth building over 210 meters (690 feet) once complete, after Brookfield Place and Telus Sky are finished in 2017.

http://www.kingsonfourth.com/

Highlights of the project, courtesy of H.E.Pennypacker:

- Not much ground level retail beyond a coffee bar - but given that there needs to be separate office/residential/hotel lobbies so it's fine

- The second level features a restaurant, retail space connected to the +15

- Third floor contains meeting rooms and a ball room while the fourth floor contains a pool/spa area and fitness room (probably for all users of the building)

- Levels 5-14 are a 50/50 split of office and hotel rooms; 15-25 is all office; 26-46 is all residential; finally there is a rooftop garden on half of the 47th floor

I have always loved the crown on this one, but I can't see it happening in the short term as there is still a strip mall full of tenants.

Add about 5-6 floors and get this baby up to 750'! Don't think there would be a problem with Shadowing BS.

I honestly don't mind this tower, it's unique in it's own way and also quite tall. To have this, 3EC, CCC1&CCC2, Eau Claire Development, Jamieson Place, Canterra, and Centennial all within mere blocks of each other.... Wow.

..... Can't forget the 7-tower proposal either..... Any further proposals in this area and we're just getting spoiled. Very welcomed though!! :) Ones like these are just icing on the cake

Edit: All those towers listed (atleast first phase of Eau Claire development) are 160m+ and all within blocks of one another... That would just be surreal.

Add one or two more and at least get it into Club 700 :) I wonder if Lacaille is going to get going on this once Vogue is finished or close to being finished?

I'm skeptical that this will get going anytime soon given La Caille took forever to start construction on Vogue.

Agree with Boris, a bit too busy of a design for my taste.

If this get's approved, and if it has the financing.... you can bet (and I've it before), Kings will get re-designed! Really don't think it'll be built as it looks now! IMO

I'm sure it will see some re-design, that's a given, considering how long this design has been around.

Vogue is already a pretty large project for La Caille to be taking on, so I suspect this one won't get going until Vogue is done in a few years.

Agreed. Nothing will happen until Vogues is done. Maybe some re-design and fiddling, and possibly some permit stuff, but not much else.

I'm interested to see what happens with this one. I wouldn't expect to see anything happen, but after Vogue came out of now where who knows? Some of the folks on SSP don't like LaCaille and the style of buildings they've built, but at least they get their developments done, which leads me to believe we might actually see this get built.

I'm not so sure though Surreal. This is a very super luxe development, and I'm not sure that Calgary has that big of a market for skyscraper super luxe developments like that. WE certainly have the market for it in SFH format, but not in a high rise I don't think.

Lots of DPs published this morning, but the one that stands out is for King's on 4th. Now, how many years before shovels in the ground?

I thought it might be dead, but glad to see it's moving forward with the DP!
If completed, that will be another 245 hotel and residential units in Eau Claire (~300 population), around 300 000 sqft office (just a guess - probably around 2000+ employees), and new restaurants and services - quite a boon to an area that is ready to welcome:
- ECT (613 000 sqft - last I saw, I think they were on the 3rd or 4th floor)
- City Centre I (820 000 sqft office; 30 000 sqft retail - to be complete by the end of 2015
- ever-expanding Anthem Waterfront, with nearly completed Outlook

And proposed:
- Disco Stu's shoes.. er, I mean Concord - 105 units
- more phases at CC
- more phases at Outlook
- Eau Claire Redevelopment (600,000 GSF of retail, 800,000 GSF of class A office, 775,000 high quality residential, 275,000 GSF/250 - room luxury hotel)
- 7 tower 2-block project

There is hardly any surface parking that is not spoken for!

All I can say is that if La Caille can get Vogue above grade, I'll have confidence that KOF is just around the corner! Also, I haven't checked in a while, but I've also noticed their website has been improved.

it looked like it would be around 800 feet!
