This building is not destroyed (http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=25767), it is still there. It has been remodeled and combined with neighboring buildings but is obviously still there.

This building was built (http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=747) in 1918 with an expansion to its present height finished in 1924.

This building (http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=17983) AKA the Straus Building was finished in 1924.

Do you have any sources that don't censor construction dates like Emporis? (Historic building registry, building's official website, city archives, something like that?)

Emporis is an awful source and quite a bit of its information is suspect. Try primary sources such as newspapers. Local archives for Milwaukee can now be easily found in the Google News Archive. Straus Building here (http://www.google.com/archivesearch?as_q=straus-building&num=10&hl=en&btnG=Search+Archives&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_user_ldate=&as_user_hdate=&lr=&as_src=milwaukee&as_price=p0&as_scoring=a). Phone building articles can be found:

Milwaukee Sentinel, July 9, 1916
Milwaukee Sentinel, April 20, 1924
Milwaukee Sentinel, September 2, 1924
Milwaukee Sentinel, August 17, 1982

Do you have any sources to support that 176-180 Wisconsin Avenue today is in fact the historic Bartlett Building? I'd completely believe you that it is in fact a victim of heavy renovation over the century but I can't seem to find any evidence to support that claim.

Also, the modern Telephone Building was completed in 1930, with its first phase reaching completion in 1917.

Check the AHI (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/ahi), record #110784. If you want accurate information about buildings in Milwaukee, check there or my website (http://oldmilwaukee.net/master-hist.php). Wisconsin Architect magazine has past articles on the conversion but I don't have the copies with me right now.

While I understand that the telephone company had it's last major addition in 1930, it is not standard practice to list the building's date of completion as that of the last major addition. The building was completed in 1918 with it's last major addition completed in 1930. There are plenty of buildings in Milwaukee that have had additional floors added 50 years after the building was completed. To list the completion date as the latter date is highly inaccurate. I think it's in everyone's benefit if we strive for accuracy.

The Bartlett Building has been updated, however:

this:
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=0tUpAAAAIBAJ&sjid=hQoEAAAAIBAJ&pg=3963,3354479&dq=telephone+building+1917&hl=en

shows the original Telephone Building was completed in 1917.

I'll have to bring up the issue of what date to list the building as with the other editors, as that issue goes somewhat deeper. The 'standard' of listing complexes from the date of the first building's completion is blurred when discussing vertical additions.

Most of the issue is spurred by the fact that there is only one margin availible to list completion dates in the database, and that is 'completion.' Unfortunately we cannot enter a completion date of 1917 and then a renovated date of 1930. I can think of a lot of arguments for or against listing it at 1917, but I'll have to bring it up with the other editors in the meantime. What may happen is a new page will be entered for the 1917 building while the existing page is devoted to the 1930 addition; this practice is more standard for the database here for logistical purposes.

Correction noted. That's what happens when I pay attention to sources other than primary sources! I believe H. Russell Zimmerman is to blame for that mistake.

It is difficult. For an extreme example, look at the building at 1245 N Water (http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=12oaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=3CsEAAAAIBAJ&dq=1245-water&pg=2624%2C2434717). The original three story brick building was constructed in the 1890s. In 1987 an extra two floors were added. Listing the construction date as 1987 would be bizarre.
