Interesting Facts/Records (in own words):

-The Orelhão* de Itú (Big Ear of Itú) is one of main touristic highlights of Estância Turística de Itú (Touristic Ranch) and one of responsible for the fame of city where everything is huge. The public Telephone was given from ex-minister of Telecommunications, Higino Corsetti, and installed by Companhia Telefônica in main Square. Paid tribute with a banquet in the city. The Telesp (Telecommunications Of São Paulo company) initially started with the Touristic Attraction bringing curiosity to the city. Since the Telesp changed to Telefônica after privatization the object was repainted to the actual appearance.
*it cames this nickname, commonly used in Brazil, as the simplicity of cabin design form once developed of the public telephone seems a big ear in conotation to the fact of earing and talking in Communication, which serves as simply accoustic and weather protection according to the tropical ambient and less cost of implementation and operation.

-At the beginning inhabitants do not believe that Telesp would install a big telephone monument in city. It was then made in same factory and dimensions relation to the other spread public telephones in country. It was installed on a Mast and resembles exactly an original one, which brought fame and curiosity to the city. Since then several huges objects were in city sold and showed.

-The idea came from Telesp to pay tribute to the humorist Simplício, who was born in Itú (SP) on the 5th of October of 1916, and was the creator of the fame of the city since 1967 started to be a national acquaintance and even internationally like the " City of the Exaggerations ", when through a humorous picture in the TV Globo, Simplício, playing up to unforgettable Manoel de Nóbrega in the "Praça da Alegria" when it was doing a character who was affirming that "In Itú everything is Big ". Since then the Telecommunications company idealized the installation of the Telephone Public Monument to remind him.
