Interesting Facts/Records (in own words):
Woork on bridge started in 1938, but was stopped at 1940. At those time only the pillars were completed.
After World War II, bridge remained uncomplete as it was a part of an uncomplete motorway running through
a piece of former East Germany, before entering West Germany again ( work on motorway was
stopped in 1943, at that time the motorway went open for traffic, but as some bridges remained uncomplete,
traffic was conducted through the valley as in case of Weihe Valley in Gerstungen.
After opening of East German border, motorway at Gerstungen was reopened with traffic running on bypass through
Weihe Valley. In 1992 work on modern bridge restarted. As old pillars were not stable enough any more, they were
demolished, except of 2, which remained as monument.
In 1994 new bridge opened.
Bridge is part of motorway A4 running from Bad Hersfeld to Görlitz at the German-Polish border.
