Information to Goliath transmitter (belongs to both masts)

Goliath transmitter was a facility of the German Navy for transmitting messages to submerged submarines and for transmitting messages to Japan, when shortwave worked poor. Construction started in 1941 and was terminated in 1943.
It was with a transmission power of 1000 kilowatts one of the most powerful transmitters of those days.
Goliath transmitter used three antennas. Each consist of a 204 metre tall central steel mast, which was insulated against ground and which was used of feeder for
the tuning coil and 6 170 metre tall guyed lattice steel masts, which were grounded and just used for carrying the antenna.
Hereby three masts were used as ring masts for two antenna systems, so only 15 ring masts were necessary.

The design of Goliath transmitter was a model for many other VLF-transmitters throughout the world.

After World War II the area of the transmitter was used, as it was fenced in, as camp for inprisoned soldiers.
In 1946 the Soviet authorities dismantled the facility and rebuilt it in Russia ( exact location unknown. Some claim it was rebuilt near Nishnij Novgorod and transmits today
there time signals for Russian military, other claim near Charkiv in today's Ukraina). Afterwards the buildings were destroyed.

The only easy visible relict from this large facility, which was larger than Monaco, is a relict of a basement of one of the ring masts!
