WHOA!

Right now I'm busy setting up our department's brand-new plant evolutionary genomixx lab where we (among other things) assess the causes and consequences of gene exchange between exotic and California native poplars.

We then use this information to model the impact that new elite poplars (which can offer exciting new biotechnological applications in biofuels, carbon sequestration and environmental remediation) may have on the genetic integrity of native trees, in order to promote sustainable development of our forest resources.

I'm also redeveloping a plant biology course for non-science majors (BIOL 156 - winter 2009) and will be teaching the lecture section of general genetics (BIOL 340 - spring 2009). This spring, I'll also be filling in for Sergio Escorza-Trevino's population genetics class (BIOL 415) while he's on leave/release.

I'll try to update this site soon!

Yours in high-throughput,

-s.
