I wouldn't expect any of that information to be released until their due diligence is completed, the sale closes and they own the building, so probably not until the new year.

I haven't followed too closely. But from what I know, the building is tentatively sold. They MAY redevelop. Doesn't mean they will instantly have a major plan to re-do everything. Unless I missed the part about they'll for sure be doing something real soon.

I think the sale is subject to some conditions and criteria the buyer must follow. One of which that
includes development of the pads.. failure to comply with the agreements could result in significant penalties..

yep and the push for that came from michael legary witch sucked in people interested in that. been workshops there on eltronics and 3d printing with members of skullspace as well (winnipegs hackerspace aka a club of nerdy people)

There is no condition of the sale to develop the pads other than at most a vague reference to use their best efforts to find a cost efficient way to develop them in the fullness of time. Period.

The sale and purchase can only be of benefit to the purchaser, the City and especially Forks North Portage Corp. I just hope the sale proceeds are kept in place for FNP and not carved off for some nonexisting community interest group.

It reminds me of the rumblings in Toronto at the demolition of a covered mall and people complaining about not having anywhere to walk in the winter. As if it’s the developers fault there is snow in January.

This really will be a great catalyst for Portage if one just leaves private interests to do what they do. It just can’t get any worse than the way it is. I walked from the Hydro building to the Mere Hotel at 8:00 a few weeks ago down Portage. The situation is so dire and pathetic one really can’t imagine. My out of town guests were in shock and held me tight the whole way.

I no longer know what the solution is for these tired lost souls. Thank goodness for Siloam Mission.

First of all, I love seeing these smaller-scale (compared to major downtown projects) construction projects being showcased here. Nice to see what is going on outside of the downtown core as well as in it.

Second, great to see thee the Waverly underpass open early and under budget! Once the rest of the interest ion work is done there it will be a huge improvement for traffic in the area.

Of course, now i'm just waiting for the inevitable growing chorus of negativity to grow. ("Why isn't EVERYTHING open a year early? Why didn't they plant more/fewer trees? Why wasn't every intersection in the city done at the same time? Why wasn't it named after ME? Why aren't there flying trains? It's too narrow! It's too wide! it's a disaster! a catastrophe! a dumpster fire! a hot mess! IT'S THE WORST PROJECT IN THE HISTORY OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE!!!")

Anyway, Waverley was probably the most glaring deficiency when it came to lack of railway grade separations... now that it's open, along with Plessis, what are the City's next priorities for railway underpasses? Marion must be number one, but I would think (along the same railway line) Fermor and Bishop Grandin must be up there as well.

It's actually somewhat shocking that the railway crossing near the Perimeter and Dugald still hasn't been turned into an overpass/interchange, but that one is the Province's responsibility.

I agree with you, Marion would be top priority. I think Bishop more so than Fermor being that they are not that from each other. But eventually Fermor is a must since it is part of the Trans-Canada Hwy. Railway crossing at Dugald should be the priority for the province when it comes to rail crossing grade separation.

Yeah, we aren't in bad shape on that front. The city and province are a bit behind given that new grade separations stopped for a while when it looked like the railways might merge and they were looking at closing some lines, but that clearly isn't going to happen now.

Another 5 underpasses in the city (basically the ones mentioned + another one or two out around Charleswood) and things will be more or less set. Another one or two out on provincial highways and we're good.

There are a few at grade rail crossings along the Perimeter but I'm not certain how frequent trains cross them and how much it impacts traffic. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, there shouldn't be any at grade crossings of any kind along the perimeter. I think we're hi-jacking the construction thread...

^ There are probably just two railway crossings on the Perimeter that warrant new grade separations, Dugald and the one between Lagimodiere and St. Anne's. Everything else is pretty lightly used.
