STOCKHOLM | Norra Tornen | 120 & 104 M (394 & 341 FT | 35 & 30 FLOORS

Helix & Innovation
Norra Tornen i.e. The Northern Towers

Winner of the 2016 Stockholm YIMBY prize
http://www.yimby.se/2016/11/vinnare-...et-i_3881.html

Quote:
The YIMBY prize in memory of Albert Lindhagen for 2016 goes to Oscar Properties for the Norra Tornen project. An exciting and interesting addition to a Stockholm where newbuilds are usually dominated by caution and standardization. Oscar Properties has despite hard resistance managed to make the seemingly impossible happen: to in a central part of the urban space construct new buildings with unusual architectural qualities and high visibility. The project's site is also particularly well chosen through its connecting effect where the City of Stockholm and the City of Solna meet in a new and exciting dense multi-use urbanity.

Aaaaaaand now the County has rescinded the construction permit the City gave.

http://www.byggnyheter.se/20170410/1...en-i-stockholm

The County, among other things, acts as the arbiter of appeals against cities' construction permits. With there being 2-4 more levels above it as well.
In this case they're basing it on formal grounds, that not enough people have been notified that they should send in their views on the project and its construction, Since they based their ruling already at that stage of things they didn't really look at the technical aspects of the one appeal that was made: the Swedish Aviation Authority appealed claiming the tower and cranes etc would interfere with the regional air traffic control radar at Bromma Airport.

Astonishing how you guys are facing the same kind of NIMBY procedures as ours. Is it such a big deal to reroute some air corridors, was it temporary for cranes? Worth doing it for some significant real-estate operation.

Congrats anyway. The location doesn't look like any easy site for approval of such high-rises.

Latest and actual design is the best IMO, allowing terraces on top of a lower floor. One of the older renders was so perfectly symmetric and disciplined, awkward by contemporary aesthetics.

Bygglovet som nu upphävts av länsstyrelsen handlar bara om den extra utbyggnaden på Innovationens tak. Det är det som nu måste behandlas på nytt."
i.e.
"Oscar Properties, the developer of the North Towers, have already gotten several construction permits approved. That's why they've started construction of The Innovation" at Torsplan. The construction permit the County rescinded is only about the extra extension on The Innovation's roof. That's what needs to be re-processed."

So the construction can still go ahead full steam until they get to the top floor.

Re-routing the air routes would be a huge deal and need environmental reviews it wouldn't be able to pass. That there is an air route at all over the inner city is crazy and wouldn't be allowed if it was suggested now.

Not easy, but also not impossible since it's on the edge of inner city and part of a new district being built on what used to be surface parking lots, rail & motorway space. The heart of downtown, where there's a clear market for many tall buildings, is of course practically off-limits from building tall.

I still like the old style better. Very doubting of the facade material (grooved concrete) of the new design.

These are really neat looking buildings. I even like the previous designs.

This was really striking.
