Quick question, what are they going to do with the lower portion of the base that's yet to be completed?

It's on the bottom right of the building.

I noticed that too when I was there last week. I thought One WTC was finished TWO years ago, so that was definitely a "what the hell?" moment when I noticed the green tarp. What is going on there?

I didn't have such a great time at the site. I've been there before, but the lack of visible progress since my last visit in 2014 bothered me. What was the same was there were still tons of loud, selfie-taking tourists at the pools and lining up for the museum, and I always wonder how much actual reverence they have for what happened there. I'm not a fan of how clogged it is down there, with selfie-sticks and people leaning over the names at the edges of the pool to get in their shots. It's like a mini Times Square. That's unavoidable though, and I guess that's what pays to keep the site going.

What bummed me out even more was how much netting and fencing there still is. It snakes all over the WTC site, creating dead-end passages that lead nowhere. I heard a lot about how the transit hub was open now, but I had to walk the perimeter for 10 minutes to find an opening through 4 World Trade. And once inside the hub, the only area I saw open was lacking for the 4 billion price-tag, to put it lightly. It looked like half of an ice-hockey rink. I hope there's a lot more coming, because if all that money was just for the exterior that's pretty terrible. I've been pretty positive about the site, but I'm getting frustrated. It's 2016. The fifteenth anniversary of 9/11 will be this year. And the way the site looks, you'd think it was the fifth anniversary. I'm thankful we have the main One WTC (warts and all), and the memorial and museum, and a couple of the surrounding towers, but it still seems to be moving at a snail's pace.

This picture clearly shows how dirty the glass is. It really needs to be cleaned!

The east entrance can't be complete until the infrastructure of the PAC is done, which is slowly making progress, however can't be fully complete until the temp PATH station is removed. Once that is done, Skanska can finish the VSC connection to 1 WTC, thus completing the east entrance.

Pretty crazy that this thing is finished, I've been obsessed with it since I was in middle school. It turned out pretty damn good and the facade is of great quality.

The only disappointment was the spire, if they had just finished how it was originally intended it would have been a visually stunning beacon for the city.

It really did ruin the entire building. However; I am optimistic that one day they will complete/overhaul it. In the meantime words cannot fathom what a disspointment it is.

This building just deserved better. After the incredible sums of money put into it, to just throw away the top like an afterthought is ridiculous. But they were set on cutting things one way or another. It's sad. Maybe somewhere down the line (years from now), with the city well on its way to being supertall central and some towers rising higher than this one, the emphasis on the spire being a great part of that will come into play. They can't make the building any taller, but they can make it better.

If ssp ever has a city banner daily like ssc at the top of the forum page, this should be the image to kick start the idea.

Something about this shot. Its so elegant and awe inspiring in my opinion. The serene city that never sleeps can at times, seem so gentle and quiet among the dark night. Contradictory sure, but NYC can offer peace of mind. Depends on how you look at it.
