2006 was when they started spending increases in a big way.

$437 million was cut from infrastructure spending in 2012, $300 million in 2013.

Present "promises" are just political posturing. They are not interested in infrastructure, at all.

I'm impartial either way, politically.

But is there some data to support the $700M+ in cuts you outlined. Everybody always says the sky is falling. But seems if Pallister comes into power, the cuts will be much, much deeper. Or maybe the promises will just be much, much less.

59 & the Perimeter north interchange is being fast tracked now. It will be big and expensive likely ($200 mil - apparently with federal help) and include the AT overpass and an interchange at Birds Hill (possible at Garvin). They will also close all other access points between the north Perimeter and the Floodway. They want to (really this time) start by late next year. It seems that no one involved in the project knows what is happening or who is doing the earth moving currently going on there (hilarious).

Sounds like cloverleaf with the flyover at 101, diamond at PR 202, hopefully trumpet at Garvin.

Biff, do you know what's happening with the weigh scale? Is it even still functioning?

No. They have the option of starting from scratch if they choose instead of being forced to reuse the existing east-north flyover. Previous designs always tried to incorporate this. I think that this is a smart move as they have tons of room to design whatever works right. The previous designs required 3 structures just to get over the east-north exit ramp.

That hasn't come up, so I don't know. I can check though.

Makes sense, considering that ramp must be over 40 years old by now and is probably getting close to its replacement age in any event. It would seem weird to tailor a $150-200M interchange just so that a fully depreciated, somewhat outdated off-ramp could be used for another decade or two before it gets replaced anyway.

Have not seen any trucks stopped in the scales there for years. I guess they figure all the truck coming out of Birds Hill sand pits are running legal weights now.

I was by there last week and can't remember if they still have the "all trucks must report when lights flashing" sign still on the side of the highway.

that's quite amusing

Maybe it was some ssp poster just frustrated with the lack of progress after all

Good to hear it's being fast tracked.

When I was by there last week there was a pot-o-potty on site so it looked like who ever was doing it was expecting to be there for a while.

I am sure that it would not take somebody from MIT long to call the toilet contractor and see who ordered it if they really don't know who is responsible for the fill is being placed there.

Found an interesting report from 1990. Has a plan for the Winnipeg-Selkirk Corridor, including a new PTH 44 Red River crossing and a route with interchange locations for the Selkirk corridor. But I doubt anything came of it. Look pretty sweet though.

It almost looks like topsoil. Which is no good for construction.

Maybe it is just "joe public" who is pissed off in waiting for the government to do its job and is building his own overpass.......

Guess that's why we've been seeing the earth movement for the new interchange. Looks like it's actually being fast tracked after all.

Still not happy about the lights intersection planned for PR 202 at 59.
