The pictures do not do this idea justice. If it came to fruition, it would become Birmingham's version of Beale Street. Yea, folks tried to do that with Uptown, and Uptown may very well become more popular once the stadium is finished. However, this new plan makes great use of existing buildings (something Birmignham has a great wealth of) to create social space without having to build too many stucco-walled storefronts to fill in the gaps.
I think if this plan goes forward, it's an even bigger game changer than Railroad Park. I mean, yea, Railroad Park kinda sparked it all, but this just takes it to a whole new level.
Additionally, the fact that there will be a BRT station between Railroad Park and the steam plant makes for a fantastic incentive for folks to use public transit that might not otherwise.
