I think the tee-pees painted on the Bow are quite clever. Great adaptation of that feature for the Stampede. Did they do that in previous years? I don't remember.

Yes the same as last year. They look great! EAP had beautiful teepees on the 9th Ave side last year which I presume they have again.

Happy Stampeding! Noticed there's so much plants/flowers/new landacaping throughout the inner city even compared to last year. City and private aide doing a great job. Putting on a good show for all the tourists coming through.

clouds at sunset by LUMIN8, on Flickr

Too bad the Rockies are washed out in this iPhone shot, but you can imagine how awesome the vista of the front range is from there.

Found a few interesting old photos of the Calgary Tower (191m), originally known as the Husky Tower. I didn't realize that the original paint job had a yellow band, painted red in ~2005 when the glass floor was installed. Click photos for full size if available.

June 1967 - it looks to have recently eclipsed Elveden House (80m) as Calgary's tallest freestanding structure

1983 - recently eclipsed by Petro-Canada Centre aka Suncor Energy Centre

Downtown Calgary during the Olympics - anyone have more photos like this? Interesting use of the Scotia tower, it seems that in the past it was a landmark tower in Calgary's skyline, almost insignificant today. It would be interesting to put together a photo essay on its history.
