Downtown getting second "Riverwalk" with San Pedro Creek investment

6.25 Million being invested into turning downtown eyesore into a usable and natural urban creekway!

Quote:
The downtown eyesore known as San Pedro Creek, a narrow concrete trough that rarely carries water as it courses through the business district, is destined for a multimillion-dollar ecosystem restoration to make the waterway more usable and natural.

Just like the makeover under way on the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River, which the creek intersects south of downtown, the goal is to remove the creek's sheer walls and replace them with sloping banks, vegetation, trails and amenities.
A bit more:

Quote:
“The vision for San Pedro Creek is to transform the drainage ditch that we know today into a more natural creekway in the urban center of our city. More importantly, we need to respect the historical and cultural significance of this waterway,” said SARA General Manager Suzanne Scott.

Here's another street view image of San Pedro Creek in the downtown area.

On a personal note, this is something I've wanted to happen to SPC for years. This pretty much came out of nowhere and it's greatly welcomed.

I was really happy when I saw this in the paper. It's way overdue.

I hope that this is only one part of the larger westside creeks project to be developed.
