Looks like a nice facility. Perhaps I overlooked this, but what is the planned capacity? And is that a running track around the seating?! I've never seen such a thing. Does anybody know of any examples of other sports facilities that incorporate such a feature?

its a pretty common feature these days...dauphin arena has one...estevan will have one....as well as another i cant really talk about in winnipeg.

small towns like it because it is a good feature to sell to community groups like seniors..makes it easier to fund raise.

Clare Drake in Edmonton has a track like that.

it is a bit of a tough one though, because arenas like to be cold and running tracks...especially ones that are often walking tracks for seniors like to be warm...it can be a real challenge mechanically.

Moose Jaw city council is banking on some money coming from the federal government, after yesterday's budget announcement. We'll find out in a few days.

Crushed Can

Would it be rude to point out that although rundown, the crushed can is a nationally recognized hockey rink designed by SK architect Joe Pettick & one of the few projects in the province to win a Governors General Award? A building of it's time & spirit. No offense to the crew at Number 10 in Winnipeg since I quite like the plan (esp the inclusion of the track) but I find the quasi historical facades to be blah.

Moose Jaw Multiplex would be a great name for a band.

The architect for the new Multiplex is Saunders Evans Architects of Regina.

Moose Jaw doesn't have much of a choice though. Either they build or lose their team and have to cheer for Regina. And let me tell you, that wouldn't go over well....both parts.

The design will fit in perfectly with the area though. MJ has preserved all of their old brick buildings. A large percentage of buildings downtown is that colour of brick.

Don't get me wrong, I think the crushed can has served it's time & new hockey economics demand a new rink ... just wished it looked "new". Let the old buildings look old & do your best to preserve them but let the new stuff look of their time. I think it just makes for a rich urban fabric.

I thought someone earlier mentioned that the design came out of Winnipeg & that they designed the Mendel in Saskatoon? Am I mistaken?

We are currently constructing a new Arena Complex for Camrose Alberta's Junior Hockey Team the Camrose Kodiaks. It has a 3 lane running track around it also. Seating 2,500 plus, Upper deck seating, Skyboxes to Rexall Place standards, lounge that over looks the main arena in this building, fitness room, NHL sized change rooms and workout rooms, etc. This place has it all. Watch for it's opening this August 2007.
See City of Camrose Website for details and updates.

A historical Facade would look good in downtown Moose Jaw. It might as well build on what it has, a hertiage of old buildings and other history.

At the risk of repeating myself, what is the seating capacity of this new complex?
