Yeah, i'm confused about its status too. If Caltrans has objected to it and the project can't get the required permits, then how far will the current excavation go?

I believe that since the project received approval from the planning commission, the project still has the green light. The City Council will simply meet to review the objections raised by Cal Trans, to see if their complaints have any merit. I don't believe Cal Trans' objection actually halts the project.

Similar to SEIU's obejction to the Sutter Hospital Midtown project. The project was allowed to proceed, even after SEIU challenged the EIR with the city and work only slowed once SEIU, successfully obtained an injunction slowing construction on that project.

Most likely the city will dismiss Cal Trans objections.

It remains to be seen whether Cal Trans will challenge the project in court under CEQA. I suspect they will, simply as a means to strong arm the city into dropping it's objection to HOV lanes running all the way to downtown.

I think the project will be u/c when something of the building itself is put in (piles, foundation, etc.). I don't think a retaining wall is considered part of the building officially, so until then....

Actually, for me I see U/C as the developer having ALL cash in hand and financing approved. Because as we have seen before, just because piles are going doesn't mean it's under construction.

In this case, all cash is in hand since it's coming out of his pocket, I'd say it's U/C nwo

Cal Trans has withdrawn their appeal for this project, so the approval and entititlements granted by the planning commission stand..

I heard today listening to the meeting that they're actually not driving piles for the project. They said they are using some kind of screw in method to put the piles into the ground. I have to imagine it might be the same method as what is planned for Aura

Wow. Another big win for Sacramento. While I'm personally not a fan of the design of this building, it will add significant density to the Capitol Mall section of the skyline, and hopefully generate more demand for local residential units by adding more jobs to downtown.

Hopefully the banks considering funding incremental financing for The Towers are paying attention to this development.

I drove past the site this morning and saw a tall screwdriver type thing. Is that what they're going to use to screw the piles into the ground?

I don't know... I don't remember reading anywhere that the screw method
was going to be used. In reading the final EIR on page 49 it says...

“The project applicant shall drill pilot holes for piles, to the extent feasible,
prior to commencement of impact pile driving. Prior to issuance of building
permit, the project applicant shall submit to the City for approval the
anticipated depth to which piles will be drilled and the estimated start date
and end date of impact pile driving.”
