I find it hilarious that Texas and California are similar in so many respects:
Both have two megacities (LA+Inland Empire and the Bay Area versus DFW and Houston) and each have two second tier cities (ATX and San Antonio versus San Diego and Sacramento), with a smattering of medium and smaller sized cities that are decaying, and a rural area mostly composed of desert, ranching, and farming.
The only thing California has that Texas doesn't? Forests and significant mountain ranges. The one thing Texas has that California doesn't have? Naturally occurring palm trees.
