i was thinking the same thing when i saw that pic. wasted space. they need to incorporate every store downtown into the ground floor of a highrise. that large of a lot could be put to a lot better use...underground parking, condos, offices AND the office depot. pffft.

what they really need to do (somehow ) is divert the heavy train cargo transit somewhere else...those definitly should not be going thru downtown anymore...
yeahm that shit used to wake me up sometimes when they would have to blow their damn horns at 3am. thats going away though. but still, there are probably other ways to go.

I'm itching for the Bosa tower at PCH & E (Office Depot site) to get moving. That area could really use it.

I think parking generates enough revenue to justify paving a lot just to rip it out again 6 months or so down the road. If the lot was already graded beforehand, there wasn't that much work involved.

heres the info on that, spoon...it was updated in late January of this year...

Block bounded by First and Second avenues and Island and J streets

Bosa Development is proposing to construct a 38-story, mixed-use project consisting of 172 condominiums, 23,000 sf of retail space and 435 parking spaces on the block bounded by First and Second avenues and Island and J streets. The project would convert the existing J Street parking lot into a public plaza. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2007 with completion targeted for spring 2010.

lets keep our finger crossed that it starts this year

heres the thing, it was a parking lot...they tore it up, and then built a new one...doesnt seem very logical...to me at least

I don't think Bosa will pull out on this, or any other projects. I have a theory about Bosa. I think they are San Diego's plow horse developer. They select premium sites and slowly complete building after building just quickly enough to keep the competition from jumping back into the market during down periods becuase Bosa probably has more experience and clout.

oh yeah, dont get me wrong...Bosa is a super strong developer and i know this site wont go untouched for long...its location is so prime! im just wondering why they wasted money to tear up a parking lot to put up another one...you see what im saying?

I agree with you that is weird. It would be throwing money away unless there is something we don't know.
