yea, i was expecting the sail to be bigger, otherwise i think its alright; its unique by any means nonetheless.

Here are some more construction pics. The first few are actually a little older than the ones already posted, but I just think they're kinda cool pics. The Italian flag ones are from during the World Cup. I guess some of the work crew were Italian. The last one is from earlier this month. It's a bit blurry but it looks like there is some sort of lighting effect along the top of the sail.
If the Melville sail actually had the blue glass that was officially displayed in the rendering, than it would look tremendously sharper. As previously said, the end result is okay.
My roommates and I visited Vancouver back in September '06 and we were so impressed by how beautiful and clean the city is. Even today we were talking about how we wish we could one day live there!!! This building will be yet another fine addition to the wonderful "ville de verre."
LOVE IT....although flatiron will outshine it soon.

^^^Are you kidding? I personally don't like flatiron but I completely despise saphire, I wish it wasn't being built so close to mellevile but at least its about 10 stories shorter
Not a big fan of Sapphire, but I think the Melville and Flatiron will coexist nicely - after all, Flatiron's only, what, 20 stories tall? They're completely different types of buildings.
Melville is beautiful, Flatiron will be timeless and a far better looking building IMO.

There seems to be some uncertainty in the Vancouver Construction thread about whether the roof of the Melleville is being clad in copper or an imitation material. Anyone know for certain?
It certainly looks like copper, but then again so do pennies.
I'm pretty sure it is real copper, someone mentioned from the vancouver construction thread that the original plan was for real copper and the renderings as well show the roof with aged (green) copper.
Here are a few pics from earlier today. There hasn't been much visible progress made on the Melville but the attached hotel portion is steadily coming along...
The view from Robson (The Shangri-La is sort of blocking the Melville in this one)
Here are some fairly recent shots of the Melville taken by Vanman and Fever that show how the copper roof is now completely clad and shows the progress at the base of the tower...
by vanman...
by fever...
Here are some great skyline shots showing off how the Melville fits into the skyline. They were taken and posted by cpfeil in the "My Photos" section. As you can see, the copper cladding is done on the roof and the sail has a cool lighting effect...
