this mixed-use project on lakeshore was approved. I saw an active excavator bulldozer at the site on Friday.

YLW March stats just got posted.
March 2017 saw 173,504 passengers!
It's looking to be a stellar year for YLW!

Wow this 14 storey SOPA building is out past the hospital. Way to spread out the urban, Ktown.
Does SOPA stand for anything?

What is going on with the intersection of 97 and the Airport? I did hear sometime ago there were plans for an interchange. Is this happening in the near future?

Mission Village has really come into itself over the past 10 years. I'd expect to see some more mid-rises go up in the next decade or so.

As for SOPA, "South of Pandosy", maybe? No idea, honestly.

Kelowna has always spread out it's high-rises and I have no idea why but if they put them all downtown the city would actually have a decent skyline.

Still anticipated in the most recent airport Master Plan, but not until after 2025 I think. You can find it below:

Sopa just is a shortening for "South Pandosy." Prior to the tower, it generally was just used to refer to the whole neighbourhood. There are a couple other businesses using "Sopa" in their name too.

Initial consideration for Aqua will be going to Council on Monday. It includes 19, 16 & 13 storey towers, and a significant land swap with the City. Full details can be found here:

New downtown Kelowna parkade ready for use

Memorial Parkade in downtown Kelowna during construction.

The city has created more parking in downtown Kelowna.

More than 500 parking stalls are now available for evening, weekend and special event public parking in the new Memorial Parkade.

“Construction work is still going on in the facility, with finishing work including the building façade, landscaping and interior construction of office spaces on Ellis Street,” said Dave Duncan, parking services manager for the city. “So we ask for people’s patience as multiple construction projects on the corners of Doyle and Ellis Street near completion.”

Also, public input session on Sunset property postponed. Original plan called for two 16 storey towers. In a Global news report, it sounds like the height of the buildings are being adjusted to 20+. Time will tell.
Adjusted height proposal:

Render with 27 and 35 storey towers. It would be the tallest building in Kelowna.

Mixed use retail/residential across the street from Prospera Place, now that's something I can definitely get on board with. As long as the units are fully air conditioned (likely, it's Kelowna) with good sound proofing.

That would be quite a view from the top of the tallest tower.

Yeah no kidding. I'm not sure if this will be approved at the proposed 35 floors. The lot is only zoned for max 24 floors, however, the city seems to approve almost everything, so who knows.

The surrounding area in the rendering is ridiculous(not accurate to reality) but ignoring that, really beautiful buildings IMO. The north end of downtown is growing up really fast, old downtown needs to catch up a bit. Let's home the 19 storey building at Ellis/Lawrence gets going as well as whatever hotel eventually gets built at the old willow inn site.

I'm curious, a 35 story building in that location in Kelowna - would the pilings go down to bedrock and how deep is the bedrock in that area?

I'm sure it depends on the site. I'm not familiar with the geology in the area, but I would assume bedrock is higher closer to the mountains, and lower closer to the lake.
