The thing is, Dallas doesn’t have traffic figured out. In fact, please name one of the 20 finalists, that would say, “oh sure we can handle more traffic”. None of them can, currently. The idea is that an urban environment, building up, you can make room for many many more here and as well as other cities.

Every mayor will say the same thing about traffic in their city. This is a boilerplate response to me.

It would be stupid for Adler to say anything substantive either way on the eve of his possible re-election. One false move.....welcome Mayor Morrison.

I'll also add that even if he does know something, he wouldn't talk about it in any event. He responded the most logical way considering the circumstances.

We probably have at least 2 more days of this speculation and insider info. This morning I thought it looked good for Austin. This afternoon I thought it had to be Dallas. This evening I know it's NYC. Good night, and I hope something changes in the morning.

Well damn. I was really behind Austin if it had to go the sunbelt. Better Austin than Dallas or Atlanta. Oh well.

I wouldn't say that we necessarily know anything except that they are getting to the end of this. There have been multiple reports mentioning several cities in "advanced" talks. I wouldn't say that we know for sure that it's NYC and/or even NoVa. As I mentioned before, the advanced talks could be what determines which city/cities they go with.

I have a hard time believing that they are going to announce a hard decision this week if they are still in negotiations. There are likely to be more conflicting stories over the next couple of days. Who knows what the real story is or will be.

Queens? Frankly, I don’t understand why Amazon insisted on so many public incentives - assuming Austin’s lack of them is possibly a deal breaker. They’re swimming in cash. I’d think they’d worry less about the sweetest incentives, and think more about fit. Northern Virginia makes a lot of sense from a tech talent and government influence perspective, but once I heard the reports of a split HQ2, I thought Austin for sure. I mean the lack of state income taxes, quality of life, the budding tech population, UT Austin, Whole Foods... transit is an issue, but isn’t that what some of their own “investment” was supposed to go to? Idk, I won’t pretend to know all that much about what these negotiations looked like or their due diligence, but having three nodes in different parts of the country would have been interesting. West Coast (Seattle), East Coast (NoVa), and Central-South (Austin). If amassing tech talent was the main goal, Queens over Austin is a weird choice.

You don’t think they can get tech talent in New York? Long Island City is 3 miles from Madison Square Garden. They might as well be in Manhattan. There are more tech workers in New York than austin.

LIC is not Manhattan. As a former New Yorker there are two finance companies you had to be careful with. Citi had a large LIC office you wanted to avoid and Goldman had a JC office.

They are harder to get to (the 7 train is full if you are coming from the city) and the G train is a mess (BK) that is constantly closed.

That said, LIC is far cheaper than midtown, but it's definitely not a prestige location in the city.

I didn't say it was Manhattan. My point was that you're not comparing "queens" to Austin. You're comparing New York City to Austin.
