That's an interesting thought. That they're still involved and will bring a theater to the property. Just not as an owner.

Can anyone discern what's going on here? The permit was for a partial demolition, but it looks like they're taking the facade down in the rear brick by brick. I assumed this potion of the building was all being demoed.

I notice the zoning permit says it's allowed a max height of 315 ft, and that it has residential up through the 27th floor. I suppose they added a floor? The extra 20 feet would allow for that. If this is the case, then they made a slight redesign of the building then that we have yet to see.

Being out the last couple weekends with the nice weather and the throngs of pedestrians, it's amazing what a disruption that block has become to the surrounding vibrancy.

This part of that article is intriguing:

Quote:
Greenberger said Pearl is not ready to disclose possible tenants. He praised the developers for "a smart arrangement of pieces" consistent with zoning code.

"There are a couple of surprises that people will find really enjoyable," Greenberger said. "Some nice touches that will add to the strength of the whole proposal."
Also, it's kind of ironic that the entire lobby of the Boyd will now be preserved in addition to the Chestnut Street facade, whereas the most recent iPic movie theater proposal would have preserved ONLY the facade:

Quote:
Pearl will reuse the entire Boyd lobby space, which extends some 150 feet back, with a single-use tenant. Howard Haas, president of the Friends of the Boyd, lamented the loss of the auditorium but voiced optimism.

"The Friends of the Boyd are very excited by the possibility that the beautiful art-deco interiors will be restored so that the public can enjoy those spaces," Haas said.
